Convergence is in a really good place e right now. They place very solidly in tournaments s and their limited toolset is still very effective again a lot of popular builds.
The most popular caster right now is axis, who’s most powerful tools are his incredibly effective tempo feat Amd his countercharge field marshal. the key piece for convergence is their battle engine, which, in addition to looking awesome, is one of the most effective anti infantry pieces in the game. Other than that, axis runs a melee focused battle group of inverters Amd conservators, Amd it’s rounded out with a bunch of drones. You can run an axis list with Lucant without changing it much Amd it’s still really good. When Locke is released she will probably replace axis in a list pair, though she’s more likely to run a colossal than he is. Axis or Lucant and his melee list is usually paired with either Orion or iron mother, who run a more combined arms battgroup of assimilators, usually with at least one TEP thrown in. An alternative is to run them with the prime conflux Amd 3-5 modulators, because my they are very cost effective models. Most of the time both lists are run in the destruction initiative theme. All lists also need a corollary for focus support.
Syntherion, aurora, ciphers, monitors, Amd the clockwork legion theme force are still played, sometimes competitively, but the consensus is they are the less competitive than the stuff I already mentioned. Adding to the problem is the clockwork legion theme is a lot more expensive to buy into than destruction initiative.

Peter Lipphardt was on the Meta Podcast this week to talk about winning San Diego’s Kingdom Con with Convergence of Cyriss. Definitely worth a listen

But how do you handle ARM skew when your attacks are shooting POW 12, at best, or melee POW 14? Granted the Conflux can put out 2x POW 15s and has POW 21 fists.. but if goes down and you can't spawn his servitors, then you are losing a lot of damage potential. Those are pow 14 with 4 dice on the feat turn. That does and average of 9 damage to an arm 19 model. Of course, you have to have a focus or fury on them and a servitors nearby, but if you play it right you can make it happen.

That makes sense. I might try to explore whether the modulator spam lists people have been running with Orion will make her backlash assassination more effective. Five modulators with a conflux give you ten shots that you can scale between pow 10, 12, or 14, Amd can be boosted or not. That lets you scale the amount of damage to maximize backlash hits while minimizing damage to the targeted jack. adding in elimination servitors gets you to good territory. if the main barrier to the assassination is how much damage you do to the Jack, hopefully modulators will let you... modulate the damage enough to make the assassination more effective. don’t know if it’ll work, but I’m looking forward to trying.

Next newb question, how reliable is moms backlash assassination? It seems really good to me in theory, but I don't see it talked about a lot. It feels like it would work really well into Dark Industries and some of the current popular ret lists. Is there something I'm missing that makes it hard to pull off?

So I got my first two Axis games in tonight, running two TEPs, four heavies. I originally thought the list wouldn't be able to handle a lot of infantry, but after those games I'm starting to think Axis and TEPs can handle of infantry just fine. So my question is, what can't that list handle?
It seems like people tend to pair Axis with Orion modulator spam, but what holes does that list plug? When do you expect to drop one vs the other? The only thing I can see right now is Axis might have trouble with cloud walls, but is there anything else you need a second list for?

Getting into the faction and it seems like axis/Orion is the current pair, but I was wondering if mom is another good option to pair with axis.
Orion has a good toolbox for negating defensive tech, but mom has a turn by turn damage boost and some decent anti infantry tech of her own.
are people using Orion because he’s the new hotness, or is he actually better than mom?

Wow, I think you’re right, unlike rampaged, you don’t take control of the model being moved when you use befuddle. That also means befuddle can work on inscrutable models. Despoiler is screwed!

Why is the list less good against hordes? I could see trolls and skorne being a problem because Orion has a harder time dealing with their anti shooting tech, but it feels like this list would get through legion and circle, Amd with hordes, you don’t have to worry about putting fury on them for the feat boost.

I’m planning on switching to convergence in a couple of weeks and giving this list a shot.
I was wondering how you tend to spend the feat with this list, how often do you assassinate, attrition at range, or attrition in melee?

I think this shows how biased our perceptions are. Players in most other factions consider a list built around two units with def 16 and 25 boxes to be a skew.

Calandra and madrak1 now revolve around the same basic game plan of defense stacking. Calandra has a better toolbox, but I think Madrak has a better feat. As you said, the list is slow, so Madrak ability to stop your opponents alpha is really useful. Calandra feat is really really good, but trolls usually hit hard enough in melee that they don’t need it. I thought no there’s a krill company list out there for calandra, but I don’t know if I’ll get a chance to try it. It seems like on the whole people are more into Madrak these days, but he is the new hotness, maybe after that calms down people will turn to calandra Also Trollock I think the time it’s useful to put bullet dodger on calandra is when you’re playing into a shooting list and you want to get her way up to make star crossed effect your opponents ranged attacks.

I think the Grim 2 list is specialized for killing infantry, and it does that really, really well. I mean if I’m mathing it right it can shoot one inch short of an opponents deployment zone turn one, so it could wipe out an opponents entire AD force turn one. If he was facing Kolgrima in northkin, killing all their bears, raiders and fire eaters turn one would be a serious advantage.

I think Ragnar is really good. He mostly supports infantry with the feat, but the feat is really, really good with our infantry. Pulverizer goes on the beasts Amd you can use dig in on strategic models to get them into engagement.
The thing I tell people about Ragnar is that he’s our most reliable caster. There are lists that a Madrak or a borka will totally roll, but then will be totally countered by another list. Ragnar isn’t the best into anything, but he’s really good into the widest variety of things, so I always end up going back to him.
