I guess it's an alternate for one of the new Mk4 solos. It's a nice enough model, but... I guess I just don't really see anything "minicrate" about it? Like, Minicrate models have usually be different thematic takes on existing models. This is one is basically just a repose. I dunno, it just doesn't exactly feel fun the way some previous models have. And this is coming from a Khador fanboy. Also the individual model link doesn't seem to be up in the "minicrate" section of the webstore? Like I only saw the VIP subscription, but I saw a random link to this model at the bottom of the page after I clicked on the VIP package link. So I guess if you want this model and don't see a link to it, go to the VIP page and hope there's a link to the individual model at the bottom of the page.

I have to agree. The model is nice, and I love having alternate poses, but that's all this is... just an alternate pose of the same model. Not unhappy to get it, just not impressed.

I bought one a few days ago! I like the idea of having MiniCrate branch out into alternate, non-silly sculpts. It’s a way to keep SKU bloat under control and it allows for some really cool possibilities. For example, for YEARS I dreamed about converting the legs on one of my half-dozen perennially I assembled Conquests so it had a different stride. MiniCrate and 3D printing allows for that sort of niche product. For Soul: this guy is basically a non-character Kovnik Joe! I think tactically that you’ll want a few of these guys just so you can tag multiple units with their speeches.

Well then it's a shame that by the time I get a Winter Korps army delivered, assembled, and get to try them out on the table a few times and decide that I want a second model of this guy, that it will be far too late to get one. I am NOT making a speculative purchase of one, especially not with how expensive the shipping works out to be. Feels a bit weird to have limited-time-only offer to get a model that you can't actually use because the rest of the army hasn't been released yet. If they've gone ahead and sculpted him, why not make him a BAHI exclusive or whatever? Why make him a blink-and-you'll-miss-it Minicrate model? With 3D printing they can print one out any time they need, they aren't beholden to the old "we need to cast these in batches" way of working.
Minicrate had some really cool models that mashed up the IK aesthetic with others in a way that wouldn't make sense in the main product line, and I loved that. It was great for painters, for people who liked things that were a bit different or unique or just silly. This new "it's the same as all the other models we're making" thing? It's boring. And I don't see any reason why they had to turn Minicrate into it, rather than running a second line - they used to have 3 concurrent lines of Minicrate after all.
Well, the obvious reason would be limited manpower. If they need minicrates but don't have the time/manpower to turn them out, using sculpts that they already made - or mild variations of them - or that they feel they needed to make available for some reason, is a way to do it. But I don't like it, I don't like the loss of the fun, silly minicrates.
TLDR: theoretically they could have BOTH the old fun minicrates and the new boring alternate poses, and that way people like me AND people like you could get what they want.

... Feels a bit weird to have limited-time-only offer to get a model that you can't actually use because the rest of the army hasn't been released yet. ... Well, the Winter Korps box releases in about three weeks, and this guy won't ship until like April, so I'd say it's fine. ... If they've gone ahead and sculpted him, why not make him a BAHI exclusive or whatever? Why make him a blink-and-you'll-miss-it Minicrate model? ... BAHI seems to have been intended for all the huge-based niche models that would have never seen a retail release otherwise, but, who knows? 3D printing does indeed mean they can make more at a whim. The November (?) MiniCrate was an alt sculpt for the Storm Division Sharpshooter, so there's precedent.

Well, the Winter Korps box releases in about three weeks, and this guy won't ship until like April, so I'd say it's fine. Still means I need to decide that I want this guy for gameplay reasons before I even get to play with the models he is intended to work with. Yeah, I know, I could proxy or whatever, but you're not supposed to NEED to proxy models. The point is just: I don't see that the demand is there for the model yet, or at least the demand feels like it is lower right now than it will be AFTER people have the rest of the army in their hands. It is for me anyway, but I don't want it right now, but I might find that I want it in the future.
BAHI seems to have been intended for all the huge-based niche models that would have never seen a retail release otherwise, but, who knows? 3D printing does indeed mean they can make more at a whim. Basically the same idea: a model that isn't worth trying to market through normal retail channels (limited demand, SKU bloat etc) but it's fine to sell directly through the webstore.
The November (?) MiniCrate was an alt sculpt for the Storm Division Sharpshooter, so there's precedent. I know. And I didn't say anything at the time because I was hoping it was a one-off. But It's BECAUSE this is the second (-ish, there was that Morrowan girl a while back I guess) time they do it that I'm growing a little bit concerned about the possibility that this is going to be the new norm.
Well, it saves me money I guess. Silver lining or whatever. But tbh I want to see more Rhulic and Gobber superheros. Let me field the entire Justice League and Avengers as squats!

Being all caught up on the new lore it's actually kind of annoying that this minicrate model seems to have the same "Non Standard Issue" sabre that the army box model, which is clearly based off the officer in the fluff, has.
Would have been a great opportunity to make *both* models stand out more.
I also, in general, agree with the points being made by Soul Samurai about MC, but there was a small but vocal minority of people complaining about models not fitting the world and whatnot.

That reminds me, I didn't start a thread for this month's model. I'll do that now.
