So ive been playing warmachine for a year or so as a Skorne player and have recently diversified into minions and am excited to start running gators in blindwater and WWFF, but am having a a bit of a struggle when looking at models adapting to this new playstyle or identifying strats like I have for skorne. Its also weird looking at warbeasts and not feeling like they are brick walls that punch in the face.

Haha, to be fair the Wrastler's 12/19 stat line is actually one of the better stat blocks in the game But yeah, Minions as a rule abhor getting hit. Maelok may give a sense of that hard to crack brick feeling you're familiar with though.

Ok cool, Wrastler im well acquainted with, I run him alot in DOA, from my reading barny 2 is an absolute tank, and rask could be fun with some lesser casters with some tricksy business. Any other recommendations on these or kther casters for gators

Jaga Jaga had some play time the last couple years. She seems to prefer Swamp Horrors, because she negates two of their main drawbacks (speed and melee accuracy).

So all the following is my own opinion, having messed around with Gators exclusively for about the past year in friendly, non-tournament games.
-Barny 1 - I think he likes WWFF more, as you get access to lots of high quality, low-quantity ranged attacks to make his Pop n' Drop work well. Generally, though, I've not found too much success with him as it seems the game no longer favors low numbers of good shots, due to the prevalence of anti-ranged tech, especially shield guards.
-Barny 2 - He runs a beast brick, which I'm really bad at. I do think you want to be in WWFF, both for overtake and to get Bone Grinders to help with sending out some Hunters Marks.
-Calaban - Another one I just can't get my head around. I'm currently messing with the Sacral Vault and Kwaak with him, but kinda lost on what he wants after those two.
-Maelok - So on the one hand, really effective. On the other hand, completely predictable. Three units of Posse, 2 Witch Doctors, and whatever else you can fit (Primal Archons are funny). Just a really, really hard brick to crack. I can say, from experience prior to quarantine, watch out for Thyron in Ret, as he can nullify pretty much all your fun tricks.
-Rask - SUPER-FRIENDS! Again, not one I've played enough to be super-comfortable with, but basically go into WWFF, and take all the junior warlocks you can. Make SURE to get the Underchief with a Wrastler, as getting a free Rage (plus the Wrastler gets pathfinder & hunter) is really, really good.
-Jaga-Jaga - my personal favorite. Signs & Portents lets you explore options, and her feat encourages taking the units/models you'd normally pass over, as you want sacrificial lambs. I personally favor Croak Raiders (with S&P, they can positively NUKE models), followed by Shamblers to pick up the bodies from the Raiders after they inevitably die, and act as really good targets for the feat (cause who cares if they had to die, they were basically free anyways, and it makes the feat a POW13 hit). Plus she's one of the few casters I think it's worth it to consider taking the Dracodile.
Finally, and I cannot overstate this, take Longchops in every list ever. Not cause he's really good (although he is), but because he is LITERALLY crocodile dundee.

Thanks for the info, that helps me alot on an idea for some casters, I will have to look into getting longchops because croc dundee seems great. Im hyped for rask superfriends, do you typically use a unit in rask & friends? We are currently playing 50pt

I had some pretty good success with Rask Posse Spam. It simply comes down to Rask 2 Wrastlers 2 max units of Posse 2 min units of posse rest is support models
I loved it and even played it in some team tournaments where it was my only list (didn´t want to bring a second list due transport reasons). I never felt that I had no game.
One thing to remember: normally people tend to run two list, therefore you have to think about which list has to fight against what kind of opponent. My experience is not big enough to give any advice here (that´s another reason why I normally only run one list in tournaments), but if I had to run 2 lists, one would be tailored against infantry spam, the other one against some kind of bricks.
I think that Jaga Jaga can handle both, with a slight advantage against more infantry heavy builds. Rask is also able to run anti-infantry lists me thinks, but he also runs anti brick lists pretty well. Maelok seems to be the real all comers though. I never played him because he is the mainstream caster in Minions (besides Rask super friends) and I hate to be part of a mainstream. Barnabas2 I never understood. Great model, but what do I have to do with him? Maybe I´d run him in Brawlmachine some day...
If you like to branch out into WWFF too, I highly recommend Arkadius because he is one hell of a lot of fun.

M&M + lessers usually eat up most of you points and minion units aren't particularly stellar outside of valks.
