Hello guys,
So in the end I have played this list:
Doomy 2
- Runebearer
- Sea King
- Rok
- Mauler
- Axer
Whelps
Valka
Lanyssa
Bears
Fire Eaters
I was playing vs Legion Anamag. Blighbringer & Golab + 2 units of Chosen's, one full unit of Ogrun Warmongers + some solos, and of course 2x Hellmounths
Both Hellmounth and fact that Anamag + Spell martyrs can do some nasty things with Gallows (d6 push to point of orgin) forced me to play more safe than I wanted.
I round (Legion)
Run boys, run...
I round (Trolls)
So I was second that game, and on my turn I just run Sea King to middle of the table, and other beasts follow as far as they could staying away from Hellmount & Gallows.
II round (Legion)
My opponent played his turn very passive way, and also was trying to stay as far from my beasts as possible, mostly contesting zones and flags with Tentacles.
II round (Trolls)
When I started my second turn I was considering assassination. To be honest I had good shoot at this. All I needed was to kill two models blocking path for Sea King, and then he would be able to charge Anamag. He was left with just 2 fury, so there was big change he would be dead. But because it was my first game and I was playing vs my friend, I just wanted to test this list in longer game.
So on my turn I just push a little forward, and my Sea King use Vomit, which in the end wasn't able to kill Hellmouth, but killed 2 Chosens and one Spell Martyr (have to say, that was unexpected)
My Fire Eaters charged, but didn't impress. Rok was able to kill another model with spray, and that was over.
I didn't put my Bears that turn which I realize at 3rd Round... The reason was that at the moment I was sure I was first player.
III round (Legion)
So on his turn my opponent was finally able to start some real fight. He started by using FEAT and then he charged Sea King with 2 Choosens which were in range, following with 2 more Warmongers. They left Sea King with something like 15 boxes. Thanks god that Grievious doesn't work on Garg. 2 of 3 fire Eaters died also, and on the other flank I lost my Axer too (Gallows + Chosen Charge).
He was also force to contest my zone with Golab flying out of his Control Zone, because I already was 2-1, and it could be 3-1 at the end of his turn.
III round (Trolls)
On my turn I was able to finally bring my Bears, and stupidly i ignored Golab (I thought that because he was out of control zone, he will don't do much), and charged Two Chosens and Hellmouth.
I was able to bring down just one Chosen.
Sea King spend whole turn trying to clear space around him. He was able to kill 2 Chosens, 2 Warmongers and Spell Martyr, healing some damage by snacking.
Rok didn't do much, he just killed by Spray one more Warmonger which was on Mauler path.
Because I used feat and also Rage on my Mauler, I run him to kill one more Chosen and one more Warmonger, and by overtake he was able to also get to Blighbringer hiting him 3 times and doing some damage.
Valka was able to charge Hellmouth and took it down, contesting also flag.
Still I was able to get anoter point and it was 3-1.
IV round (Legion)
There was not much left on Legion side. He almost concede by attacking my Sea King with Golab and leaving the zone. He was able to take him down, but by the end of the turn it was 4-1, and I just could pass my turn to get last point.
So some opinions on the list
Doomy 2
- Runebearer (most of the time he was trying to hit buffed Chosens with Hex Blast but missed twice, still +2 range is very nice in that list)
- Sea King (he was great, of course when he was charged I was almost sure he will fall down because of his low arm - price to pay when not using stone -his Vomit was very nice, but his threat is insane: 5" + 4" (range) + 3" charge + 3" feat + 2" (rush) + 2" (hunters mark) = 19" max, but it's at least 17" with no problem, and range 4" also helps a lot because you almost can't fully protect your caster. In addition to that he has Wild Agression on himself so he will not miss a lot too...
- Rok - well I wasn't able to place him in good position that game. I was afraid of Gallows so have to play him safe. And my dream that he will annihilate all opponent infantry by Overtake + Berserk was staying just a dream
, but I think that's wholly on me, and I could play him better.
- Mauler - What to say. He did't do much, but we need his Rage to break hard stuff.
- Axer - Yeah, he also didn't perform well, but again that's not his role.
Whelps - as always great, at contesting zones, and clearing Fury.
Valka - He's nice. Tough to kill and I totally forgot about retaliatory strike. So when he used Tentacles I was able to kill that before he could pull me.
Lanyssa - Nothing special here, but it could another 2", and she helped Bears to get needed 2" to charge Chosen.
Bears - They maybe didn't perform well, because I played them badly, but still the fact that my opponent was forced to stay close to the middle hellped me a lot with positioning.
Fire Eaters - So I love this guys, but vs such a list they are close to useless... not enough damage to kill hellmouth or chosen
What changes I would made?
Have to say that Mulg would be very nice vs that list... negating Gallows would fix a lot of my problems.
The only problem I am seeing is how well Bears worked to keep my opponent close to each other, which could help with Overtake, and even with some Shooting from Sea King.
Before that game I was considering Mountain King instead of Sea King, but again additional 2" threat is very nice, but if I want to keep him, I need Mauler too... and if I want all Rok, Mulg, Mauler I have to drop Lanyssa & Axer, so I am lossing 4"...
So In the end I will try to play list like this next game:
Doomy 2
- Runebearer
- Mountain King
- Rok
- Mulg
- Axer
Whelps
Valka
Lanyssa
Bears
So it's
MK is replacing SK
and Mulg is replacing Mauler + Fire Eaters
