I recently got an itch to try MonPoc after seeing some of the models pop up in one of my FLGSs. I'm particularly interested in the Terrasaurs faction (Armodax just speaks to me), but I can't quite bring myself to pull the trigger on buying into a new game that doesn't seem to have any players in my area. So would anyone like to tell me what they like best about Monsterpocalypse? Or (for the sake of my wallet) tell me what's not so great about it?

What I like most: It is pretty sweet, and also totally great. What I dislike: I am not playing it right now. But for real: if you like the thought of playing a game that’s essentially all the action parts of a Godzilla (Pacific Rim, Gamera, take your pick) movie, this is the game for you! Body slamming monsters into nuclear power plants and spiking tanks and jets into their faces is fun. The downsides aren’t really downsides, depending on how you look at things. In 2-monster games, one monster can get killed pretty early, which makes the game very hard for the 1-monster player to recover. It’s not impossible, but usually if one player is undamaged and the other guy has lost a monster, we’ll just go ahead and call it and play another one. There aren’t quite hard counters in the game. No monster combinations are unbeatable by any stretch! Because the maps are fairly limited (currently 4, with a 5th releasing in May, and a 6th due by end of year), players do have to understand how each map works and sometimes build an army that works well on the map. But... eh... You’re probably going to own more than 2 monsters anyway, so that’s not so bad...? The biggest downside is that there are a half-dozen or so hyper-bleeding-edge players on Discord, the type who own every single release, who come up with the goofy corner cases on the power curve and then blow them out of proportion. For example, they’ve already declared the eternal supremacy of Globicus, who just got revealed on Wednesday’s stream, before they ever played a game with it. So... like they’re good players, but they REALLY need perspective that their hyper-competitive scene is not applicable to everyone, and adjust their proclamations accordingly. Anyway... MonPoc is tons of fun! Play it!

Well my big concern is that I don't know if anyone in my area plays it, and I'm not sure I have the time to try and build a meta all on my own. That and I don't care much for G.U.A.R.D. or Planet Eaters so the starter boxes would be a bit pricey since I don't want the monster they come with.
Otoh, I'm very interested in the Terrasaurs and Tritons. Any ideas for a good army set up using those factions?

The important thing to remember is that Monsterpocalypse is centered around agendas, not factions. Any army built featuring Terrasaur monsters might actually contain a lot of non-Terrasaur units! I’ll throw out a random army, but it is by no means the only way to do it! ... as soon as I get a chance to do so.

I know it's agenda based and not faction based, but if I'm going to spend my hard earned nickels on tiny plastic monsters then I want to make sure they're monsters I'll enjoy building and painting. I appreciate your help!

I keep forgetting to come back and post something once I’m not on a phone. OK, here goes with the “not super pretty” version:
Terra Khan Armodax
Brontox x1 Carnidon x3 Carnidon Elite x1 Spikodon x2 Bellower x3 Bellower Elite x1 Pteradactix x2 Steel Shell Crabs x4 (I know, you want to stay Terrasaurs pure, but you need something to hang out and secure, and these guys + Bellowers make a hard-to-remove module) Season the rest to taste
Buildings: Mt. Terra Jungle Fortress Power Plant Industrial Complex GUARD Defense Base Bunch of apartment buildings, or 4x Tokyo Triumphs and a bunch of apartment buildings, to really sell Armodax’s Armored rule.

I actually don't mind mixing the Terrasaurs and Tritons. I like both factions, so the steelshell crabs are cool with me. Thank you for the suggestion.
Now there's only two questions left: should I buy a starter set, and how do I find some people to rope into playing with me.

Now there's only two questions left: should I buy a starter set, and how do I find some people to rope into playing with me. I think the starter sets are good value because they provide a consistent demo experience and supply all the dice, buildings, and supplies you’d need to give full demo games. (I personally picked up a second G-Tank blister and Belchers blister so each player could have decent units for power generation.) You can find people to play with you by showing up at your local game store with your demo models in tow and offer to teach people how to play the game. Also, because you like Tritons, you should definitely consider pairing Krakenoctus and Armodax as your monsters! They’re a tough team!
