maybe. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I fully understand the need for changes, but I really wonder what constant change does to communities that are already struggling to attract players. It took me a long time to get comfortable with mkiii and adjusting to a themes only game and now that I was back and had a particular level of excitement again here they come with "BASIC RULEZ AND THEME CHANGES! YAY \o/" I know I'm not the diehardiest player, but I can't be the only one with my mindset either. womp womp.

I think this small change is a genious way to promote list diversity. It simplidies the game, yet makes it more rich and diverse. Very well done imo.

LOL half the players like consistency and half like constant updates. Quite a balancing act.
I like the change. Gives so much more flexibility within themes and don't have to worry about being down 20 points of "free" models if you want to diverge a bit.

Gotta agree, themes feel like a massive balancing act (for the player) and make/made listbuilding needlessly convoluted. I was contemplating just giving out universal free points as a substitute, but with this change I might introduce themes to our games.

I'm no huge defender of them and even left on a hiatus for awhile, but coming back I found them pretty easy to build. Now don't get me wrong, MAXIMIZING them with limited options is a bit of a bear, but insofar as building a list and hitting the points. More often than not I was 75 on the nose with only "some" concessions, which themes are all about concessions (unless you play Circle ) so I can't really fault them there.

I'm the kind of guy that spends his time during bus rides building and drawing army lists. Theorycrafting has always been a valid way to spend dead time for me, not just with WMH. But most of the people I've introduced to it were already overwhelmed by the basic complexity of the rules and unit cards, let alone the language barrier, adding themes would've just added to the duress. That being said, I definitely agree about concessions being a good thing, but the way it was implemented was plain bad. With the stronger themes there's nothing to concede on (tharn, immortals), and with the weaker ones it's basically a question of what you aren't conceding on. The fact there still isn't a Vyre theme is also a Firetrucking travesty, and PP really have done their best to shaft combined arms lists. All of this in past tense, of course, we'll see if they bungle up the theme rework. on topic, horthol looks neat on paper but never struck me as that amazing. I think I actually have enough large bases to proxy him and some long riders, so I'll test them out too.

I built my Madrak2 list with him. He seems to fit best there and gives my opponent multiple scary targets for the feat turn (can you catch them all? muahahaha). It'll be interesting to tweak once the new changes come down the block and I can choose more/less beasts.
