With the 2017 Steamroller rules in testing, I have to ask myself if the new rules will give many of our Warlocks a new lease on life. The long years behind us consigned many hit and run types to the scrapheap by virtue of the Steamroller format. All matches were about being forced to the middle (where such types do not shine) to slam dance or lose on scenario. I have been a rather vocal critic of the Steamroller format which keeps so many Warlocks on the shelf. I am hopeful by this turn of events.
If testing completes and the posted guidelines become the law of the land, you will have the option to play a hit an run caster because losing to your opponent by six points gives you a lot of wiggle room. I can already envision being willing to put Kaya-1 on the table with support from a Druid Wilder and a few other perks. Give me my oats and I will take nearly any brick formation apart stone by stone. Granted, shooting lists also see a potential boost with these rules by the guidelines for terrain (another thing I've been advocating for many years) should balance that.
In regards to Killbox, eh. I would rather the entire game simply go to a 3'x3' table and have us move onto the table on our first turns rather than place anything other than Advance Deploy. The reasoning is pretty simple, that Killbox already restricts us to basically 3'x3' anyway. The only reason to start with a 4x4 is so people can't be blasted on the first turn. Moving onto the table accomplishes the same thing. This should make for a faster deployment and games, not having to keep up with Killbox always in the back of your mind. More to the point, 3'x3' tables are the NORM and easily picked up for gaming. If you want to sell more games and involve more people, give them a damn table format that most people already have. That is just my two cents.
