Aside from shooting, part of the problem with designing a front line caster is that they’re really easy to knock down, and then they die easy. That light beast over there you’re not worried about? Psych. It’s gonna take a boosted head butt to knock you down. Or, damn, you get teleported by an arc node so your back arc is showing. If Butcher is really going to make his front line shtick work, he needs to be somewhat better protected from that crap. Yeah, I really think you would need to come up with new rules for them rather than trying to stack and combine current rules to make it work...

Homicidal Grit: On any turn where Butcher had destroyed an enemy model, he gains Homicidal Grit for one round. (Homicidal Grit prevents a model from being knocked down, or being placed, pushed, slammed or thrown.)

Don’t worry, folks. I’ve got it locked down. Just hang on until Monday so I can at least say I have played this in one playtest game...

I feel like half this thread has been you hyping up your version of Butcher2. I am curious to see it, as I will be playing Butcher2 this weekend... But holy cow, at this point just give us a teaser so WE can playtest it as well and give feedback instead of spamming hype messages haha.

I will maintain radio silence until Monday, give or take.

Long story short: It worked well. Per expectations, everybody who saw the card fixated on one particular rule and suggested I had made something OP and unstoppable, which is exactly the same reason I haven’t shared it here yet. Wailing and gnashing of teeth and all. That lasted until I played through a test game with my opponent and carefully explained how to avoid the mistakes that I had built this iteration of B2 to exploit, and how to go about fighting him properly. (You’re not going to one-shot assassination run this Butcher2, and that is by design.) I even lost that test game (I forgot Severius0 has Road to War) despite having an optimal feat turn and pretty optimal opponent army to test against, one which allowed Butcher2 to do what he does and mulch a bunch of dudes solo. (That part was effectively unchanged from the in-print B2.). I probably will come back later today or tomorrow and work on a write up for this. I’m supposed to be on PTO today, but I got called by work at 8 AM anyway. >_< My day of “not doing work stuff” has been somewhat thrown off-kilter, as a result. Anyway: good news! Just like the Gun Carriage, it turns out that after 13 years at this I know a little something about Khador! Butcher2, lord and savior, etc., etc., I am great, and so forth. Be warned: this Butcher2 is a thinking man’s Butcher2. He is undoubtedly strong under the right conditions, but no more so than any other situationally strong caster. You have to understand the fundamentals of this game, and also have very strong reading comprehension, to make him work.

I have difficulty getting to the point some days.
Also, I feel like I often have more-than-average demands for my time.

Just post the one rule everyone fixated on. That'd get some discussion going.

Just post the one rule everyone fixated on. That'd get some discussion going. Nah. That would be like the time in CID when <insert exact same situation where everybody fixated over one single thing> instead of <relevant thing in that CID situation which everyone should have been concerned about>.
But, seriously, I'm working on the full write up. Just hang on...

For clarification: by "hang on", I mean "I will work at a reasonable pace and post my ideas as soon as I am able", not "all discussion must halt while you wait for me to save Khador".
Please feel free to continue without me for a while.

Lol, you still have to get pass the CID gatekeepers They tend to turn down homebrew test cases with a vengeance! Especially if they go against their design intent/vision. Best you can hope for is if they open up a Dev Talk and make your case there, anything else will be dismissed as "wish listing" or being "out of scope". Sorry for being a Deby Downer I actually enjoy wish listing with the Khador community, I just don't seriously think anything will come out of it. It's like discussing world issues with a table full of friends lol everyone knows shit won't really change or get done but we enjoy voicing our "if I were in charge, I would do X" opinions.

At this point, I'm all-in on the hype train. Don't post it yet. Give some other hints. Play another test game and drop some more hints. Let build it up more! I heard that this version of Butcher2 will revolutionize not just the game, but our entire paradigm on game-design itself!
Just teasing, michael - life gets busy, I know!
