For the first time in quite a while I got to play this game. Despite not playing very much currently I'm still somewhat obsessed with trying to make use of models with bad reputations to see if there are some redeeming features about them. Also it's about playing what I have available and feel like putting on the table.
My idea was that Maelok offers a number of benefits to them, most notably a +2 ARM all the time through death pact with another +2 on feat turn so long as I cast death pact. He also provides support in mortality and revive. His feat essentially equates to a turn of tactician as well and as a final bonus the witch doctor (thanks to death pact again) can also give them +1 SPD.
Of course this meant the list was out of theme and missing out on a bunch of free points and other benefits but I wanted to see how it played and all the things I said he offers also apply to brigands. POW 16 gunshots at RAT 9 sounds pretty tasty too.
So this was the list I came up with.
Maelok
Wrastler
Ironback spitter
Bull snapper
Gatorman soul slave
Gatorman witch doctor
Bone shrine
Max brigands with warlord
Slaughterhousers
Slaughterhousers
Brun & Lug
My opponent was putting his Khador down on the table for the first time in ages so both of us were pretty rusty and he was also putting down a list designed around a desire to put certain models on the table over purely tactical grounds. His list was the doom reaver one, wolves of winter led by Vlad2.
Vlad2
Grolar
Juggernaut
Greylord outriders
Greylord ternion
Doom reaver swordsmen
Fenris
Greylord forgeseer
Marshalled destroyer
Koldun lord
Scenario was The pit 2 and I made him go first. Despite listing all this I won't go into a battle report because my opponent went for an assassination top of 2 which came up short (thanks mostly to a counter-charging bear) by a handful of boxes. This gave me a huge attrition swing and my opponent was left without any real means of finishing Maelok off. The slaughterhousers didn't get to do much, one unit distracted a couple of the outriders and killed one of them. The other unit was in position to go for his objective in my 3 third turn but we called it before then. He was already down to just Vlad and his jacks with the mechanic support.
I really liked the Brigands with Maelok, Mortality stacked with prey is somewhat overkill and I didn't get to do that this game but the extra pip of speed helped and whilst they didn't achieve anything of note the slaughterhousers were something of a distraction for the outriders and most of them survived!
Since it was a short and rather skewed game though I'm posting this here to ask others if there is any merit to this kind of list?
