Right so I posted some battle reports in reply to the wrong post a few days ago, so rather than reply again. I decided to make a post to track games and give reports with my Kolgrima list: I wouldn't normally do this but she's currently sitting at 12-0 since I moved to SotN over PoD.
The list is usually paired with Madrak1 but that would change if I played in Champions.
A few points: - Yes I want a Mistspeaker - No I can't make it fit in the list - This does make me sad
Generally this list will be dropped into all Warmachine lists, while my Madrak list will get dropped in all Hordes.
Game 1
So as promised heres the battle reports for this past Tuesday. I was running Kolgrima and informed my opponents of my choice before they chose their lists as I find it preps me for worst case scenario if I face worst case scenario in practice.
Kolgrima (sotn) - Ruinebearer - Glacier King - Pyre Troll Max Stone + Northkin Elder Max Northkin Raiders Max Champions Fire Eaters Handlers plus Battle Bears Valka Fell Caller Hero
I pair this list with Madrak1 and the plan is to drop it into almost all warmachine. Ironically these two matchups are two that I’m worried about for Kolgrima as one has heavy incorporeal which would normally be dealt with by the normal stone and the other is a jack spam which I think Madrak1 would probably have an easier time cracking.
Scenario is Spread the Net and my opponent, Chris chooses Denny2. We obviously discuss the fact that he would never dream of dropping her into trolls, but I want to see what happens worst case scenario so here we go.
Deneghra2 (black Industries) - Deathjack - Nightmare - Seether - Seether - Nightwretch - Nightwretch - Nightwretch Warwitch Siren Warwitch Siren Eilish Cephalyx Overlords Cephalyx Overlords
I win dice roll and choose to go first. I do this a lot as my list is so fast that it often draws the line of battle well over their side of the board which gives me a huge edge on scenario. I deploy the Northkin raiders as a screen for the Glacier king on my right flank as he helps them out with concealment. On the left flank are the champs and fire eaters and Valka who wants to sit on my flag. There is a building in the middle of the circular zone as is the fashion in SR2017. I run everything as far as I can as I know I might lose stuff but it’s important to take control of as much of the board as possible as I might need to backup when he feats.
He advances cautiously keeping Deathjack out of the Glacier Kings 13 inch charge range and uses a Hellmouth to kill five of the raiders. He also sprays another 2 with the Cephalyx. On the other side of the board he misses a hellmouth on the Fire Eaters.
At the start of my turn Bears ambush on and have a line on Deathjack. I see the colour drain from Chris’s face as I get 2 charges onto him. The Handler charges an Overseer that is closer. The two bears do a lot of damage but leave him on 6 boxes, but thankfully take out the movement. I finish it off with the Glacier king that moves up and then take a shot at a Nightwretch crippling the arc node. On the far zone I send one fire eaters in on to a seethe on the other zone.
Chris reacts by sending a Seether over to kill the bears which it manages. An overseer on that flank wills the handler. The overseers on the other flank spray down two of the fire eater meaning the Seether has to kill the third which is engaging him. Nightmare who’s prey target was the Glacier King runs moves up to threaten the GK and Chris Feats making both Seethers, Denny and Nightmare incorporeal. We both score our flags and zones to move to 2-2.
Valka moves off the flag with Righteous vengeance to threaten the Seether. He charges it and manages to kill it with two magical melee attacks and the help of +2 strength from the stone. Two northkin raiders charge the warwitch sirens and I get lucky getting one dead. The fell caller runs onto my flag. The Champs attempt to threaten Nightmare so even if he kills the GK he dies next turn. I also use Kolgrima’s spray and fish for a crit stationary which I get on the second spray on Nightmare. The GK shoots Eilish and gets him dead. I go up to 4-2 on scenario. (one thing I don’t do is put Owl’s wisdom on the GK as I didn’t realise how this works.)
Chris gets Curse of Shadows on my GK (Owl’s wisdom would have stopped this) and charges the GK but doesn’t get him dead. He runs the other Seether into my zone so he has two things contesting and contests my flag with two overseers. He clears his zone by charging Valka with Denny2 and then teleporting him out of the zone. However he needed to move the Warwicth off the flag to get back the focus he spent on shaking stationary and so he only scores 1. He also fails to contest the middle zone and he’s pretty low on models rightg now so I also score making it 5-3.
At this point it’s fairly simple to score the three points I need. I feat to move his jacks out the zone and the pyre and fell caller kill two overseers before Valka runs in to contest the zone. I still score the middle zone hence it finishes 8-3.
Game 2
As previously stated I’m expecting Kolgrima into Strakhov2 as Rob has previous experience against Kolgrima, but after seeing my list and realising it’s not a POD beast brick he pivots and drops OW2. I’m very scared I can’t crack all the armour but this is what practice is for, right?
Old Witch 2 (Jaws of the Wolf) - Juggernaut - Juggernaut - Kodiak - Marauder - Sylys Wyshnalyrr Forge Seer - Behemoth Forge Seer - Rager Widowmaker Marksmen Max Battle Mechanics Kayazy Eliminators Kayazy Eliminators
I again win the dice roll and decide to go first. The scenario for this game is the Mirage Scenario from the SR18 document though I believe we forget the central flag. Still I’m confident it didn’t change the outcome of the game. I deploy just like last game only the bears aren’t allowed to ambush due to his theme benefits so they AD in the middle. There is a central forest this game instead of a building so I will be able to get Prowl on the bears. I go first and run everything forward.
He is immediately worried about his casters life as the GK, Kolgrima and fire eaters all threaten her is she moves more than a few inches up the board. He kills two Raiders with Behemoth but somehow 4 of them tough. He puts Reconstruct on the only jack the bears can charge. He tries to stay out of charge ranges and most of his jacks. He does send the Kodiak up his right flank to try and be in a place to contest next turn.
I am out of shooting range of everything due to his Windstorm spell so the GK will do little this turn. I send the bears in on the reconstructed Jack and force him to use the spell. It might be seen as a waste but bears under stone are never easy to kill and all the models spent on them mean less models threatening my zone or flag.
He kills more raiders and even side steps an eliminator twice to context my flag. Valka counter charges and kills the eliminator but is no longer scoring my flag. On the other side my opponent kills my fire eater engaged with his Kodiak with his eliminators and kills the fire eater behind the wall contesting his flag. He scores his zone and flag going up 2-0.
I use the champs to kill a Kodiak and one of them contests his flag. Valka and the Bear Handler charge the Reconstructed jack that has 9 boxes after being repaired and somehow fail to kill it. The GK charges into his zone and kills the other Juggernaut. I then feat with Kolgrima who scores my flag push Behemoth away so he can’t charge the GK and sprays the other Eliminator to death. I also stick the two remaining raiders in the zone and score two making it 2-2.
He send an eliminator into my champions and kills one while contesting my zone then shoots the contesting champ but I use sanguine bone to move the damage so I continue to contest. He gets Curse of Shadows on my Gk (Still hadn’t realised I could have stopped this with Owl’s Wisdom) And charges with the Juggernaut and Rager but doesn’t kill the GK. He does manage to kill Valka and the bear handler, but I still score my flag and he scores nothing making it 3-2.
Windstorm isn’t up so I have the option of an assassination on Old witch who spent a lot on Curse of Shadows and two boundless charges last turn. I decide Scenario is the safer option and clear my zone with the champions, kill his widowmaker solo with the pyre troll and then score his flag with the fell caller. I am already scoring my flag so Kolgrima kills the objective to score me 4 and win me the game 7-2.

Ok so I had an idea:
What about
Kolgrima (sotN) - Runebearer - Glacier King - Storm Troll Max STone + NE Bears + Handlers Bears = Handlers Max Raiders Mist Speaker Valka Shaman Shaman
Right So what do we lose?
The champions is the biggest thing. Mostly they sat back and threatened anything that could kill the GK. Surely a Unit of bears with the melee Cold stone buff could so that as well?
The Fell Caller hero is gone but remember he isn't needed without the Champions as everything except the Stone has pathfinder
Fire Eaters: Honestly they're a luxury in the list. They make you take the pyre troll which would be better as a storm troll as this needs to cover the Cygnar matchup. They don't do well against beasts and they while they are good against high arm infantry so is cursed fate and Kolg's sprays or northkin raiders.
What do we add?
Mist Speaker: Means the list offers credibly assassination threat in Haley3 Matchup, with Kolg and GK. Two shamans will not offer all three things. Bigger cloud wall, infantry clear and Def Debuff.
I'm feeling pretty good about these changes even if the old list is perfoming really well.

hi,
really interested in your testing. I posted my current list at the Kolgrima Thread. I would like to know your opinion about the Northkin Raiders. I like them with grim1 never thought about adding them to Kolgrima. I used the champions to brick and to build a LOS protection in addition to clouds to play Kolgrima a bit more aggressiv to release her full potential. Your current build seems to be able to crack a lot of medium Armor but it seems to struggle with higher Arm.
