So the Ice Troll appears to be a better/cheaper impaler for SotN. What's the plan for the Basher?
Seems to be a cheap beat stick that provides higher quality attacks than infantry, but not quite to the level of a real heavy. Does anybody have an insight into what he's good for? Seems mediocre to me, but I'm hoping somebody can change my mind, since I just bought one.

My goal yesterday running 3 was to use him in conjunction with Doomie3 + Boosted attack dice to effectively shut down a heavy/garg as a sacrificial piece. It didn't work... at all for me. But I blame that on my play as opposed to the piece. I also think if I'm going to try that I need to find a way to put the Knot in there for extra fishing.

I really like the basher in Theory. Never played him yet. Power 14 pathfinder for 7 points is really cheap. He could even be a good primal target cause a 7 point piece that frenzys should be OK. Crit stagger is a nice goody but I would not count on it.

I see him being very valuable in PoD lists to push things out of zones.
Even if he can’t kill another heavy he can push it back 4”. He might die the turn after but he’ll have the target softened up and have helped score a zone.

Ice trolls are pretty great ranged pieces. Pow 15's under northkin stone (18 under rage) is going to hurt...a lot. Pow 18 with rage and the stone or Pow 17 with primal and the stone but at mat 8 is pretty good. Crit stagger can be really powerful but I don't like the idea of relying on crit effects. A caster Like Grissel 1 can make them ultra lights. Hitting at P+S18 (20 if calamity goes off) and free charges plus and extra initial. Dos almost 30 damage to a khador heavy on average. |

BTW, it appears that the Basher, Ice Troll and Winter are all on the same body, with different heads and arms.

Played a Borka2-BoH list with Basher/Ice Troll and Chronicler-Champs/LRs.
Before game thought: Basher and Ice Troll are two reasonably priced models to sacrifice-generate Charge of the Trolls. Ice Troll may generate a lucky crit ranged attack or two?
In my game the Basher provided animus, -2 DEF, to models that the LRs/Borka2 wanted to IMPACT/charge, and did some mild bashing.
The Ice Troll, with 2" melee, generated +2 MAT/+addn'l +3 damage (SSE) to Champions unable to charge a warjack (still gain 3d6 P+S 15 damage on two attacks each).
At one point several Champions were MAT 11 (War Cry + Charge of the Trolls), 'could have been MAT 13 effective if the Basher-animus had been close by.
Two decent animi on two well-costed Warbeast platforms with reasonable damage potential = very good design! Slag, Impaler and Night Troll say 'Me too'!

I rechecked the card because I hoped I was wrong, but charge of the trolls only gives+2 to damage, not an extra die. That would be awesome, if it were flank war beast!
I like your thinking, though. Charge of the Trolls is one of my favourite abilities in the game, and if it gets easier to use, I'm happy!

Sorry, got ahead of my brain...and corrected above. I did NOT play an additional die of damage.
I mentally translated the +3 damage (SSE + CotT) to addn'l die. Sorta the next best thing to MK2 Rage on a warrior(s)...
Cheap Pathfinder beast can make it easier to try for Charge of the Trolls.

Personally a running ebdt works really well for me and charge of the trolls. He body blocks the follow up and has pathfinder, and is usually spd 7
