Hi,
Iḿ more of a collector than a gamer but I also like to field my miniatures as part of some good working army lists. Well, that being said, I bought Deneghra3 because I really love that miniature. But I don own any Cryx models besides her, therefore I like to ask what should I get to build an army around her? What works for you? What theme force to select? There are so many open questions I don know how to start. In addition, there is nor Cryx player around here, therefore I don have any experience with Cryx.
Every help /advice is highly welcome!

Start with soul trappers. 2 at minimum (so 1 blister), 3 if you don't have other soul collectors in your list. She's very efficient if she's able to get just a couple of free spells a turn outside of feat. It's not all-important though despite how much I'll mention it below. Themes: Slaughter fleet and scourge sadly don't let her collect souls easily. Ghost fleet leaves only pistol wraiths. I don't think she offers much to dark host because everything's already ghostly. Therefore you're looking at infernal machines or black industries. List considerations in both themes: - Most of her shtick is putting ghostly and mortality on everything; withershadow or skarlock get another casting out there which is particularly helpful to enable something to get stuff done and collect souls before deneghra's activation. They can also collect the occasional soul themselves.
- Two character jacks available in both themes make regular appearances:
Deathjack (big stompy skarlock) is useful for the same reasons as above. Malice (big stompy soul trapper) drags things to their doom and does a good job of banking souls on a frame that isn't trivially sniped off the field - Deneghra is rather vulnerable to boostable guns as she can't hide. Inflictors & an Ogrun bokur are available in both themes; IM has 2pt brute thralls while inflictors get carapace in BI.
- Bringing guns is very helpful in collecting enemy souls. Your merc unit slot can be helpful here; croe's, nyss, and cephalyx overlords can be worth considering. You can bring one unit of overlords in infernal machines using your merc slot even though they're a faction unit once in game.
Dark industries considerations: - Carapace for heavy jacks is obviously quite nice. Deathjack/Malice are particularly nasty in this theme. Leviathans get hard to beat in a shooting war; slayers/seethers/inflictors are nice as well. Free arc nodes and scavengers (flight+ghostly+sprint is neat) are well appreciated.
- Limited protection for denny; inflictors and/or bokur are likely to make appearances.
- Mortality tends to reward attack volume which is generally low in this theme. 2 units of overlords and potentially a merc unit as well can alleviate this. Since overlords are already around it can be worth considering some drudges but that's decidedly not good a purchase when just getting into cryx.
- Aiakos is a consideration as she generally doesn't want to fuel a huge battlegroup herself. The usual stalkers are nice as always; i've also seen the slayer being used to good effect.
- Repair: Necrotechs can heal her, and get plenty of scrap in this theme. Once they come out the ogrun ironmongers can heal quite a bit as well.
Infernal Machines considerations: - Thrall horde can provide a lot of attack volume which takes good advantage of mortality. She's one of the better casters to run 50+ thralls with, though it's not quite a powerlist and gets very expensive
- Brute thralls let you spam shield guards. Ambushing shield guards in from the side is a neat trick as she's rather fast.
- Soulhunters are pretty good with her; they can collect quite a few souls though often get greedy themselves
- Carrion Thralls love the ignoring free strikes aspect of ghostly, letting them charge into the middle of the enemy's ranks and sometimes get unexpected backstrikes, before repositioning into back arcs to force things to turn around and generally be even more of a nuisance
- Deneghra can benefit from the wraith engine and/or darragh wrathe's arm buffs. However, the generally lower arm models in IM probably make those two less advantageous than in dark host. I'm unsure they're worth it, but if going that route you'd want a lot of brutes and soulhunters in the list.
Denny list checkboxes: - At least 1 heavy and 1 arc node
- At least 1 out of activation spellcasting option
- At least 1 shield guard
- Multiple ways to collect souls
- Volume of attacks to take advantage of mortality
- Ranged attacks

Gobber has given a very helpful summary. I was playing her and posted about my experiences awhile back and got great feedback here. She’s fun to play, but you need to be careful to protect her against guns. My games into Ashlynn in the Laeleese theme, running double Storm Cav from Cygnar, plus Thorn Gun Mages, did not go well. That list can take a lot of board space quickly and leave you with few places to hide. DEF 17 doesn’t help enough when everyone gets an extra dice to hit under Ashlynn’s feat, and Denny’s ARM isn’t high enough to completely block POW 10s. Death by a thousand papercuts still kills. I found that I wanted to play her farther forward, but that often got me into trouble. I often found that I appreciated Malice for the threat extension, but that just may be my playstyle. Also, Tiberius has written thoughts on running all of our casters in various themes, and you can find links to his thoughts on Deneghra3 here.
