Hi, in my opinion I have always felt that the min mechanics + UA were more cost efficient than max mechaniks due to the benefits provided by the UA. However, I'd like to see the two cents by the community as a majority of you all have had more experience than me with mechanized khador.

I've come to love the UA because of his medium base and girded. I often sit my Eliminators next to him on the way in so that they can't be picked off with blast damage. Then if I'm running a squishy caster, like An Irusk or Sorscha, they can stand next to him. Be careful of Electroleaps though. Also the d3+3 repair is always better than two mechanics and often better than 3

I'd say Min+UA is normally a better bet than a max unit. Plus the UA is a pretty cool looking model.
If you are talking Min + UA vs. two Min units though then it really depends on what you are running with them. If I don't have anti-blast tech, like Solid Ground, I like the UA. If I have a couple big jacks (or a colossal) and MoWs I like two min units so I can spread them out more.

My go-to if I have 6 pts for mechanics is 2 min units, if you have the models it's more point efficient models per points and you get to spread your units out as far as you want. I'd only go for the UA if you really want girded for certain matchups when you don't have blast immunity from your caster.

So the problem I ALWAYS have, is I WANT to put the UA. But 3 points just always ends up being one point too many so I take max mechanics instead

Can't trample through the UA. He is solid.

I think he might work well in the New Theme force. Reposition will help speed up the slowpoke and help the mechanics huddle up after a reposition.

If playing out of theme then a Goblin Tinker is the way to go. He is also an amazing scenario piece.

I find the Tinker does everything I want mechanics to do, for cheaper and better.
If I am playing a Tier, I would not take the UA unless I was playing Jaws, because being SPD 4 really sucks.

How about Colbie Sterling? Any good?

Well the Tinkerer can focus on one Jack at a time, and for its points its pretty Expensive in terms of repair:
Mechanics 4: 2 Repair Per Point Mechanic UA: 1.5 Repair Per Point Tinkerer: 1.5 Repair Per Point
And the Mechanic UA is a much better deal IMO.

How often do you have multiple jacks you need to repair in one turn, that your mechanics can get to?
For myself this situation doesn't come up very much. I find my opponent focus fires on one jack at a time rather then peppering my battle group so I only need one model that needs repair.
The Tinker's other advantage, is he is *much* tougher to kill then the rest of your battle mechanics, and being SPD6 is surprisingly significantly better then SPD5. He also make a much better screener for your caster due to his high level of durability. I have played both, started with battle mechanics, went to tinker, never went back.

TRAITOROUS SCUM!
But yeah those accusations are all very fair.
I just use lots and lots of Jacks at once, so I like them prim if possible.

Just to play devil's advocate: While the Tinkerer is great Mechaniks can be better in some situations: 1. Colossals - More repairs keeps it running longer 2. MoW Boat - There is a much higher chance that 2 or more will need repair 3. Malakov1 - Cheap Suckers that can also repair redline damage 4. Theme Forces - Obviously

...I find it atrocious that anybody would suggest that a stinking homeless Gobber has more of a place in the great armies of the Motherland than our loyal mechanic heroes clad in steam-armor!
