Been playing for years now and I've not been big on the idea of themes. Given additional advantages based on army builds is dangerous and causes literally every competitive pairing to be built around a theme. It stifles the creativity of a list and harms the list building process in turn. Playing without a theme in the current meta is the equivolent of fighting with an arm tied behind your back. You can win, but why do it?
These leads me to speculate. Obviously the hottest topic in warmahordes and most cause for errata is due to themes. But PP does keep releasing them, already moving away from the promised no points discounts (sorry PP, free points is basically the same thing). This is the equivolent to warhammers style of swapping out power factions.
Ive been brainstorming the idea of hosting events with themes not allowed. It seems like a lot more balance can be achieved across a player base with varying amounts/types of models. Does this community think that making theme bans tournament regulation could help the community balance the way that privateer press is conducting business? I love the game but have set it down for quite awhile now due to the recurrence of gross spammable themes. I want to come back and think this may be a viable way of playing competitively that focuses on list building more so then spam flavour of the month.

If it's something you want to do, I can only encourage you.
Whether people will turn up, however, I'm not sure. I wouldn't attend a non theme event personally.
Then again I think Themes have really improved the game and I'm a big fan. There is quite a lot of criticism of themes online however so maybe that player base would support you. I have a sneaking suspicion that themes aren't the actual problem and are used a scapegoat with people who have fell out of love with the game. The only way to find out though is to hold a tournament and see who turns up.

There is only one real reason for themes IMO; its a way to continue to sell models while limiting the bloath of models.
And I say that not as entirely negative. PP needs to sell models to survive. And we need PP to survive to have a living game.
I would go to a non-theme event. It would be fun to see someone trying it out. Of course it makes new balancing issues. Some armies needs their themes to have good armies and so on. No easy solution sadly.

I like playing theme lists more than non-theme, sorry. Yes, they pigeonhole you into specific builds, but playing non-theme just feels you're playing incomplete list. And it's not like there was more variety without themes. If you compare WTC 2016 and WTC 2017 model statistic no way 2016 is more diverse. I have a felling the 2017 actually more diverse, but I can't provide data to back that up.

I'd attend such an event. I too lament list building and mixed lists. A lot of people wouldn't as it is a deviation from standard SR. It would require building and learning entirely different lists just for one-off events. As much as I want this to be a thing, it will never be without official PP support. And that is never going to happen.
Just give up. Thememachine is here to stay, for better or worse.

Guest. Of Course. Misleading title for thread. Check. Complains about themes and says they are the only thing ruining the game. Check. Throws out unfounded flamebait. Check. Gets everything wrong. Check. Thread goes to 12 pages. Processing.

I think you should try, why not. One main thing wargames have over boardgames IMO is that the variety of ways in which the game can be played is infinite, the systems are very open and work well with creative ideas. The more formats the better, I think most players would enjoy plaing different formats from time to time to mix things up. Ones who won't leave their comfort zones no matter what are a minority in my experience.

I mean, if a guest can't be bothered to register, should BFT be bothered to give a well written reply?

I might tell you to firetruck off
