So, I'm looking at the Legion command book and I'm wondering... is anything actually missing from this?
Other factions had stuff removed to be included in future theme books instead, a decision that was fairly unpopular... did they reverse this, or is Legion just special?

What is the painting section like? Is it a rehash of the old painting guide? How extensive is it?

Well, take it with a grain of salt because I do not enjoy painting, but it looks pretty shit. It's the same as the other command books I've seen - a page of text that's basically useless, followed by two pages for each of three colour schemes. More useless text under the title "Painter's Inspiration". 7 pages total, with 3 "painting tips" boxes. For example "blow through a brush with red and brown ink to make blood spatter".
If you are only buying the book for the painting guide, you are going to be severely disappointed.
[Edit] There are more pages devoted to the gallery images than the painting guide.

I've been thinking on this some, but what kind of stuff was left out of other command books? No MoW in the Khador one , No Trnechers in the Cygnar one, Menoth is missing the exemplars. What major themes does Legion have that they can get a whole book devoted to? Are the Ogrun in the Command book? That's one theme that i think could see some exploration. I love the Dragonblight stuff but I do not feel that Legion has very well defined themes. Rather they do not have many defined themes.

For example "blow through a brush with red and brown ink to make blood spatter". Wow. They reused this (lol) "pro" tip from Legion Faction Book MK2? While it was relevant back then now we have good technical paints that allows to archieve much more with less effort. I would call myself beginner painter but with "Blod for the Blood God" (or Valleyo alternative paints) I can make realistic blood splatters with null effort. Oh, well. No fluff, not even all stuff Legion, so I hoped at least for great hobby articles. I kinda don't see any point for buying this book as it is. I'll look at it in my FLGS, maybe there is SOMETHING that will pick my interest, but for that price I seriously doubt it. Bummer, I liked buying books back in MK2. At least they had semi decent fluff with something other than Cygnar in it... I've been thinking on this some, but what kind of stuff was left out of other command books? Rather they do not have many defined themes. I'ld say, other than bio-weapons my bets are: - Ogruns (as you've said) - Striders - Blight magic (from Sorc on Helion and Hexhunters to Tentacle Engine of Mediocricity) - New blighted races (Nephilims/Grotesques) - Tentacles! I think Ogruns are no brainer, other than that who knows?

There is "fluff" in the book. I put quotes around it because it's the same story you've seen before (Morrdh, Ios, imprisonment, en-ogrun-ment, Pyromalfic blah), and the (to me) boring world-building details including Everblight's Org-chart. There's about 12 pages of this. The vast majority of the book is devoted to the faction models though - over 100 pages. Ogruns are all in there, as are striders and grotesques.
I currently have two theories for why we got the whole faction:
1) They just honestly did not have anything else to add, and the book would've been too small.
2) Our theme books are scheduled to be some of the last released.

Although we have more stuff than retribution, we do have less stuff than the original Warmachine factions AND the most limited selection of minion choices I think. It may be we get more releases in our theme book than Cygnar/Khador.
I think the forces book is nice. Good artwork, summary of what's happened. Painting guide is pointless, but there are nice pictures of different colour schemes In the picture gallery.

It might be nice for new players (which is OK to be honest, not everything must be catered to veterans). If I were new I might have bought it. Personally I don't see buying it in foreseeable future, if ever. There is not enough incentive TBH. Which sux, because I liked collecting Hordes suplements. Long story short - I liked old model better...
