Okay let's assume we get a beast theme that hands out free Willbreakers/Soulwards for every 25p of beasts. Now, this guy is probably good with Xerxis2, but is he worth 30p? I doubt it.

He's a lot tougher than I thought he would be. But he's also quite a bit more expensive than I was hoping for. I guess we can make some interesting theme lists with this guy, but I'm not convinced. He's probably quite strong with Rasheth, where under feat and the right deuffs hits with Rat8 pow 19 against a single target and pow 17 against the rest, reposition and some jam and it's not that bad.
I haven't got Xekaar though, and he's not really my cup of tea, but it looks like he can get some work done there as well. I also really want to get a closer look at the model, that one pic didn't really convince me.

Underwhelmed... i can see it being used with xerxis 2 and a hydra to leverage some anti shooting tech and spray action with the feat. Xekaar is a no go for me.

3 things I dislike about him: -model. Granted, haven't had a really good look at him and basilisks are supposed to be ugly, but considering Azrael and Loki [gorgeous models/sculpts] I was hoping for something a little bit.... better -animus (mainly because I was hoping for wraithbane). Big CMD range though, can be cute to have a 9" area (it is CMD, right?) to trigger counterblast while dug in. -point cost (too expensive IMO - I feel like 17 would be more appropriately costed) Likes: -RAT 6, 10" magical spray -non-basilisk defensive stats, they're actually decent considering ingame modifiers -3 initials + assault at a reasonable (after enrage) POW -SPD 6 heavy (considering in-faction movement buffs) -cute leadership, but unless basilisk lights get some better defensive stats (come on, 13/14 and 12/14?!) I don't think I'll be running many basilisk swarms

I'll try him out in My Xerxis2 Double Hydra list on Saturday (testing out Strakhov2 Friday!)
Xerxis2 - Hydra - 10 - Hydra - 38 - Chiron - 19 Min Paingivers - 5 Soulward - 3

Generally I like the rules for him, but that point cost is just too high. I've always thought the Carnivian was too expensive for what it does and Chiron seems like more of the same. RAT 6 is a big step up from the Carni's RAT 4, but ARM 18 just drives me crazy. The Krea animus will help, but PP has been handing out blessed weapons all over the place lately so I don't have high hopes for this dude actually making it across the table and doing anything useful. At that cost, I think I'd rather just take two Drakes and double up on sprays.

I don't think he's a bad beast, but I don't think he'll lift Xekaar up very much. Morgh2 will still outclass him in every way, and with his feat being equitable to Xekaar's bond, he might be the better choice all the time every time.
I like Dig In. I like counterblast.
Disappointing leadership ability to be sure. Drakes are not good. I keep trying to use them. They always fail me. He never gets off more than one shot because it is very close ranged, and he dies incredibly fast even under krea/agonizer.

I like him. With assault he'll be valuable to assassination casters, especially Morghoul2. A 19" without buffs range to put a boostable pow15 is great for putting chip damage out. I can see Mordikaar liking him too, def12 isn't bad for feat and he likes assassinations.
I really like Counterblast combined with Dig In. Put Rush on him, walk 8, Dig In, put up Counterblast. It should really screw with how your opponent comes at you. Especially under Zaadesh2. Counterblast, Defensive Strike, Countercharge. Since he's a Drake, carefully place a Krea in range for aura, but also to threaten countercharges. Should make your opponent think long and hard before committing, or taking a pow18 bite and a pow14 flanking charge. Good stuff. He's definitely situational depending on the caster, but I see good things for him. I wasn't expecting how he turned out, I'm excited now!

With a few casters Chiron would be welcome despite the cost.
Particularly with Xerxis2, he threats a generous 14" in melee, making his assault reach out to a potential 23". And with Dig In on an 8" walk, that's pretty good utility. I also like how good the spray would be on feat turn.
Having two of his sprays out of Black Spot with Hexy2 is pretty tempting as well. If infantry was more rampant, that would be big.

Pros -3 melee initials with two open fists (throws happen), then assault for 4 initials. Gets pretty interesting with Zaadesh2. I see merit with Morghoul2, too. Xekaar feels like he should play Chiron in Winds of Death. -12" threat with rush (more than most of our heavies and Despoiler only has a 12" threat on one of his attacks) -Counting as flank for the krea. -Inflict pain can be good, though it's rare you'll get to live the dream by hitting 3+ warbeasts. -Magical sprays (same on drakes) means the extoller can stay home.
Cons -19 points. Feels like we're paying too much for abilities we won't ever get to use all at once (dig in vs. spray, pretending peeps will take Xekaar competitively without an arc node, etc.). Doesn't help when Despoiler and Karn come in at the same price point (and yes, with dark shroud, Despoiler still hits harder with 2" melee [on on attack] and helps everyone else, too). -Can't counterblast spray when engaged. Overall, I think counterblast is a so-so animus.
Unsure -Okay, dig in is pretty good. On a hill OR with krea, that's DEF 18 -- meaning even most non-aiming boosted Cygnar guns will miss. I'm just not sure how often I'll want to use it with that fat 10" spray. Maybe turn 2? Rush walk, dig in, counterblast? -How often the basilisk fury management will really change how you build lists. I'm not sold on drake spam in MK3. -If that great bond is enough to bring Xekaar off the shelf. I still don't see it.

Cons- .... -Magical sprays (same on drakes) means the extoller can stay home. Why are magical sprays in the 'Cons' section?
