Anyone play? I wanted to try the Batman game, thinking it would be good for trying to play with some of my friends who weren't gamers, and got some minis painted up. Ultimately found the rules a bit too complex for new players (well, personally I think they also were messy and not explained well enough) and I didn't follow through. I heard that the Marvel/DC game rules were easier and faster to play, so I picked up the X-Men starter box, then Knight Models dropped the license. I'm still planning to finish the Marvel models I already have however, since the rules are the same so I can sort of "transition" into the DC stuff. Some painted models (click on them for more photos): So, anyone playing or thinking of playing?

I personally play the Batman game and find it infinitely superior to the Supes game

I personally play the Batman game and find it infinitely superior to the Supes game I don't really see anything unique about the "superhero" game other than the whole "throwing buildings" thing, and to an extent the different resistances, but it looks easier for a newbie to grasp. There's a lot that I like about the Batman game, but I basically completely gave up on the movement rules and wrote my own instead. Also the hit/damage rules kind of annoy me. Have you had to "homebrew" any of the rules, or are you playing it RAW?

Cool, I might have to ask you for some rules clarifications if I try it again!

I've been thinking about converting some of the models they have into unit leaders or solos. How do the compare in size to Warmachine warrior models?

So many questions: what models are you planning on using, what are you going to convert them into, and what units are they going to lead, such that superheroes would look good in the IK setting? Anyway, here's a shot I took of some of models: (I'm using the "Add Attachment" button for the first time; seems to work, but I don't know how to make the thumbnail bigger. Click on it to see the full sized image.) As you can see Knight Models are a bit taller than most IK humans (although the slightly higher bases may be exaggerating the effect a bit in the photo), and a bit more realistically proportioned perhaps. The cop, despite being the slightly smaller female model, is still quite a bit bigger than Sylyss, Cyclops is a bit taller than Harkevich, and Batman looks quite large compared to Strakhov. Still, I reckon the scales are close enough that a unit leader who's a little bigger than his unit will probably look fine.

I personally play the Batman game and find it infinitely superior to the Supes game This, all day long. Can't really sympathize with the OP's statement about it being too challenging for new players. I'd put Warmachine as being more challenging than Batman to learn from scratch, to be honest. The main difference is that Warmachine is established enough that new players will probably find some WM vets to teach them the game when they first start out. Can't say the same for Batman. Any miniatures game is going to be overly complicated when you first start out cold, with no mentors to run you though your first few games. But anyways, yeah I've been getting into this game more and more. Probably won't pick up the DCU game until much later - once i am maybe ready to move on from the street level experience. Don't know if that'll happen - Batman's adversaries are the coolest comic book baddies around, and playing gangs of them is just too fun

Any miniatures game is going to be overly complicated when you first start out cold, with no mentors to run you though your first few games. That is one of the big problems I've had; no experienced players around. Another is that I think the English version of the rulebook is simply not as well written or organized as PP rulebooks. And while miniature games are usually complicated, some are more intuitive and consistent than others. In Warmachine when I'm rolling against you I pretty much always roll dice, add it to my stat, and compare it to yours. In Batman sometimes I just roll against my stats and completely ignore yours, sometimes I just roll against your stats and completely ignore mine, target numbers are sometimes set by special rules rather than just always being on the card (eg. damaging with firearms). I dunno, I find it less logical.

I'm into the Marvel game, sadly now out of production. I started just after the closure, but managed to get all the miniatures I wanted for my chosen factions (Good&Evil Mutants and Good Avengers).
They are very nice models, and the game is quite fun to play.

There's a few models I'm missing that I would have liked (Superior Spiderman, Venom, Loki), but the prices quickly jumped up to insane levels on the few pieces that do show up on Ebay.

I played batman but our "Son of Batman" stopped really doing anything locally and the game just died out. Only got about 5 or 6 games in before game death but I was really loving the system and rules. Picturing the heroes grapple hooking around and my ninjas stalking everywhere was really cool.
Still holding onto my models but not my hope for a game resurgence.

Now I'm curious, any ideas why it died? As far as I can tell Knight Models have been releasing new models at a fairly decent pace, there's plenty of "tie-in" material in the way of movies, comics and even videogames to keep people interested in the universe itself, and most people I've spoken to online like the rules and how it plays, and it's not really too expensive to get into, so... why doesn't it seem to be catching on? Is something missing? Do people not enjoy assembling and painting the models? Do people get enough superheroes in their other media, and they don't feel like playing them on the tabletop?

Too many other games around, it was a bit infinity-ish but that game died because the gamestore did the dumb so that sort of rubbed.
