Hi!
A couple of weeks ago I went to the Iron Moot event in Sweden and planned to attend Champions, Masters and some other tourneys as time would allow. Due to some problems with luggage my plastic minis (three units of posse) didn't arrive until late on the first day so I skipped the Champions tournament. Luckily the Moot had overlapping tournaments so I could join a "Masters with ADR"-tournament later instead with the two lists that didn't have posse at all I can't remember all the details from the games (some weeks ago) but there are a couple of things that I learned that I think I should share. The lists I ran were:
- Sir Shootalot -
(Blindwater theme)
Calaban, The Grave Walker
- Ironback Spitter
- Ironback Spitter
- Blind Walker
- Bull Snapper (free)
Sacral Vault
Sacral Vault
Bog Trog Mist Speaker (free)
Totem Hunter (free)
Swamp Gobber Chef
Croak Raiders (max)
Croak Raiders (min)
and
- The Doktoor -
Dr. Arkadius
- Battle Boar
- Road Hog
- Road Hog
- War Hog
- War Hog
- Gorax Rager
Dahlia & Skarath
Orin Midwinter
Feralgeist
Swamp Gobber Bellows Crew
Farrow Bone Grinders (min)
Calaban was ofc. mainly a Ghost fleet drop but I think it has game in other matchups as well, more on that later
Ark was more tuned as a general drop. The threat ranges are so great and Skaraths paralysis would be helpful vs Fyanna2 etc. Felt really great with this pairing even though it is always a bit weird to play a tournament without Rask!
Unfortunately I forgot to write down the names of my opponents, I'm really sorry for that!
-- Game 1
The day started of really bad with my first game vs Haley 2 (and vs a friend from back home). I dropped Calaban vs this since double vaults is fun vs Haley and Hexblast/Parasite is always great vs Cygnar. The problem is that my list is too slow and Haley simply out-scenario:d me. I should probably have tried to bait in the SW with a vault. My opponent also played really good and didn't give me any good way to come back into the game. Good positioning and utilizing Haley's feat well made my day difficult.
-- Game 2
This game was vs Mercs with Thexus/Cyphon. He dropped Thexus and I dropped Calaban, hoping to have a 25 minute feat-turn. I bunkered up between the two vaults with the Blind walker supposedly protected by both vaults. I botched the positioning however (thexusfeat) and he was 6 boxes shy of killing the walker.. Bad. But, thexus was well within 18 of the blind walker so some animusing, trampling and healing later I was in a good spot to kill thexus with hexblasts and so I did.
-- Game 3
I dropped Ark vs Circle (wurmwood). We played the "weightlifter"-scenario and he was a bit too afraid of Arkadius threat-ranges so I was able to push him out of scenarios and won on 6-1 in points.
-- Game 4
Legion! Finally! I had "tuned" my arkadius-list to include Dahlia and Skarath instead of RnB to get some tools vs Fyanna2 and I was finally going to test it. I thought. He dropped Vayl2 instead. Sigh. Nvm, I threat longer than him (not spells included) so he felt he had to go for an assassination on Ark in cover with three camp after some attrition that didn't go his way. Missed two spells and then he just gave up since Vayl stood out in the open with two pig heavies being able to get to her next turn.
-- Game 5
Cryx as the final game, we had both gone 3-1 today so I knew that I was up for a tough match. One funny thing though, he was list-locked INTO Denny1-Ghostfleet so he "had" to play it. Poor guy. Ofc I was looking forward to actually test my Calaban-list which I had built to handle ghostfleet. I originally had one spitter and double max frogs but Rickard Nilsson talked about a list that was close to my original list that had an extra spitter so I thought I'd give it a go. Both lists would have yielded the same result He tilted some when I reminded him that Blackbanes are NOT immune to the sacral vault's aura. It went downhill for him from there. He killed some frogs, I got souls on the vaults. He died. He eventually gave up after feating on one vault and shooting on it with everything he had left plus one Stalker, leaving the vault on 7 boxes. I have to admit that it felt somewhat good to have the Cryx player calling the Minion models "bullshit" and "I can't do anything about this crap".
All in all I ended up in fourth place. Since the cygnar player dropped together with a pair-down made me end up with bad SoS. But anyway, I'm really satisfied with the performance of these two lists and I'll continue to build on this with the new Minions-theme for DrArk. Free Orin is best Orin.
