Any chance we could get a section created for selling/trading models here? I've used Bartertown before but it may be nice to have an area here.

My suggestion is that we be very careful with that. Bartertown has systems in place to gauge people and a host of dedicated peeps that watchdog the place extremely well (i know: i've been trading on there for 10 years, and i've done my fair share of helping hunt down dirtbags).
That said, a site with trading that is not well regulated and policed is a haven for scammers, and that's a hard reputation to shake once earned.
I'm not saying don't do it, i'm saying just tread carefully.

Going to echo haight. Bartertown has the infrastructure and moderation team (with teeth) to handle trades and sales. We do not.

Understood. That makes sense. Also. Bartertown is a wonderful community- I picked up about half of my collection through them and the standards the community sets for professionalism are refreshing.

Here's an idea: we can't facilitate trade, but how about we point users to places that can like Bartertown? We can stick it on the Resources sub.

I, for one, had never heard of Bartertown before this thread. Now I'm looking it over in another tab. I definitely think this is a good idea. If we can't help, at least we can be helpful.

Those are great points about BT. How about an area where people can point to their listings there? Like a cross post to increase traffic.

Here's a Facebook group that posts a lot of things for sale/trade: www.facebook.com/groups/1463026820623729/Though I personally have used Bartertown to purchase most of the 'base' armies that I've gone on to later flesh out. Buying a large lot at >50% off catapults you quickly into decent army build options!

Bartertown is awesome! As i've mentioned i have traded there for 10 years (... no surprise, screen name is Haight there too! Same avatar as well...). You do need to be a bit careful but its basically the best the second hand market has to offer in my estimation. And if shit does hit the fan, the admin / mods / old timers WILL help you get your stuff back or make life for the scammer (legally) a royal pain in the ass. For some fun reading, head over there and look at the bad trader forum. MagickalMemories is an admin and has made a science of finding people when they've handled a trade in a shady manner. As joedj mentioned, you can easily get stuff second hand there for 50%, and even NIB at 25% off isn't unheard of... sometimes it needs a bit of work, but still, 50% off is really good as long as nothing is permanently damaged.

I wonder if I can offload my guys. Guess it's worth a shot, lord knows they've just been sitting in my game-bags for years now.

A few suggestions: Painted stuff can fetch MSRP or more, but you'll sit on it for a while. The trick is to find someone who loves your paintjob, but that can take a while. When listing stuff either post pictures or be VERY detailed in condition (particularly damage or missing stuff). Trades can go downhill in a hurry if stuff shows up with negative surprises. Getting more than 50% MSRP is difficult ; don't take it personally, its just the secondhand market. When you ship, i recommend investing in some bubble wrap. People will be forgiving of shipping damage if they see that you REALLY tried to avoid it. Bubble wrapping everything and then using newspaper or foam to "brace" the package so stuff can't rattle around does wonders. I've packed 1400 of PP minis in a large USPS priority box. Never, ever be the guy that just throws minis into a ziplock bag and ships them (i've gotten those packages before, and it sucks). Just some tips for getting the best mileage out of bartertown.

I've long wondered why no one, to my knowledge, has organized a trading post / meet up at large conventions like Gen Con. Wouldn't that eliminate the shady aspects of online / shipping/ money changing hands? ...Maybe it's just too much to organize effectively.

I would advocate against any kind of trade or sales threads on Lormahordes, and also any threads that provide links to peoples adverts. The linking of an advert hosted elsewhere is nonetheless effectively the equivalent of posting the advert itself here. It's really just an unnecessary complication for the admin team. 99% of the time I've no doubt everything would turn out fine, but you do get that 1% that result in trouble...
A general sticky of buy/swap/sell resources (links to Bartertown et al) should be fine and dandy, though would need a caveat that the listing of those websites is in no way an endorsement by Lormahordes or the users thereof, and that should you choose to utilise any of those linked websites in any manner you do so at your own risk .

At the uk games expo, there is a large big and buy event, where people sell off all sorts of stuff for money, and people buy it. Very busy, and pretty well organised. Looks like very hard work though!
