So I am just curious what it is like to run minions outside of one of the two theme forces. I am fairly new to the faction and so far have only played within the Blindwater Theme. There are plenty of models outside of theme or in thornfall that I would like to try out but I am unsure what exactly an out of theme army looks like in minions. What are some common combinations or interesting interactions that are worth trying out. I would prefer to stay with Gator locks and beasts as that's what I have but what would that look like with models like Brigands, the Meat Thresher, or Nyss Hunters.

there are only a few reasons why you operate out of theme.
reason 1: you want to take brigands with a gator caster. Reason 2: you want solo's in your army that cannot be brought in theme and the Free solo's from theme do not compensate for these solo's. A beast heavy pig army that wants to bring Lanyssa for example. while retalitory strike is FUN, getting a FRee charge and 2 extra inches can be alot nicer.
but essentially as far as minnions go, the moment you want to bring alot of infantry there is no point in stayin in theme (other then briggands on a non pig caster)

I have (for a variety of reasons) chosen to run minions outside of theme and quite enjoy it. The freedom to mix and match warlocks and units is quite fun and there are some neat combos. Since you like the gator warlocks more then we can use Brigands with either Maelok or Calaban for examples. Mortality or Parasite stack very nicely with Prey and a full unit of brigands can be a frighteningly efficient and effective unit on the table. There are also some quite fun tricks with the lesser warlocks like Rorsh & Brine who can allow you include a battle boar for primal (don't do this with Maelok because primal only works on living warbeasts) in case you need the accuracy as well as solid hitting power. (Primal is so valuable when playing into Circle and Legion.)

Although I have mainly stayed in Thornfall (save experiments with Gatormen Posse under Helga and lists which include Lanyssa), my fiancée changed her Calaban list to include Brigands, Efaarit Scouts, and Nyss Hunters. It works very well when the low-to-mid POW shooting gets boosted by Parasite - and I feel Brigands outperform Croak Hunters due to the Hog Wild order (while Dig In can also save some of them on the approach).
I imagine that Maelok with Bone Grinders will make a very efficient anti-Hordes list but I haven't tested it yet.

For me the models I want to try out are Dahlia, Nyss Hunters, and Lanyssa specifically. Are there situations where they are worth breaking theme for?

My Carver list with a lot of lights breaks theme for Lanyssa and Gremlin Swarms. Since it's a Warbeast heavy list I'm really only missing out on Mat 5, P+S 11, 0.5" range Retaliatory Strikes, which doesn't feel like a big deal. I'd say Helga doesn't mind breaking theme for Dahlia and/or Nyss Hunters, and if you've broken theme with Helga and aren't taking River Raiders then you're doing yourself a grave injustice

For me the models I want to try out are Dahlia, Nyss Hunters, and Lanyssa specifically. Are there situations where they are worth breaking theme for? From what I have seen others do, S&D can run lesser warlocks and "super solos" well. Shield Guard might even save a few Nyss with him. Rask turns Skarath into a murder machine with Rage + Fury + Boundless Charge. Calaban likes Nyss for their accuracy since Parasite boosts both their ranged and melee damage output, making them hit as hard as Dawnguard Sentinels. Everyone wants Lanyssa, so she can go into whatever list you are experimenting with anyway.
