Everybody else has a thread for painting - why shouldn't I do the same? I paint slowly because I've got so little free time, but I just finished Thunderhead, which probably took me 4-5 weeks. Just got the base done this weekend. I'm pretty happy with it. You can click here to see the progression shots, if you're interested.

He looks pretty good, if maybe a little flat? Personally I'm a fan of aggressive edge highlights for armour and other non-organic surfaces, so take my feedback with a grain of salt.
I feel that using bright colours like white for the base rim can take away from the model itself; I just stick to simple black myself, but at the very least I would suggest staying away from any colours that are used in the model itself.
Making the bolts stand out a bit from the surrounding surface can add a bit of visual interest to a model. Personally I paint almost all bolts in brass, but another option might be to just add a drop of a wash on the bolt, so it pools around it thus adding shading and helping the bolt to stand out a bit?
Dynamo is a model with lots of areas that are traditionally painted as glowing. I think that the glowing effect could have been enhanced a little by by highlighting up to almost or even pure white. However, in this case the pure white armour plates would reduce the impact of the glow, so I would probably have painted the "white" areas with a light grey. In fact that might just be good advice in general; using light grey as the base colour and saving pure white for the highlights gives better contrast, and I believe contrast is usually a good thing in miniature painting.

Thanks for the feedback. Sigh. Now I might go back and tweak Thunderhead a bit more.

I hope I wasn't too discouraging, that wasn't my intention. I'm never sure how much feedback to give: is a poster focussed on improving his painting skills and wants tips to help him to improve, or is he more concerned with playing the game and happy with a basic paintjob?

No no - not discouraged at all! I honestly do welcome the feedback. I'm sighing at my own perfectionism, although I've got no delusions of being a good painter. Now that you mention those things, I feel like I need to go back and do the rivets, for one. They do stand out as something that got no attention. I might also do the base rim and try to add some white/blue highlighting on the coils. I sighed because I literally did spend over a month on this, and I thought I was done.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I once spent something like three months on a warjack (just the painting - assembling and converting was another story). I actually haven't done any painting in several months; too busy, plus low motivation. Well, anyway, good luck!
