Hey All,
As I have mentioned (several times) I am new. But my gaming club is having a tournament this weekend and I have decided to enter. It is cheap and gives me an excuse to play games all day on Sunday! The list that I have mostly been using has been an Irusk1, infantry heavy list. The advice I got from the former Press Ganger at the club is that it is a good list, but very nuanced and if I don't play it just right, I will fail. Also, because of all of the moving parts and the fact that I do not know the game well yet, my turns run very long which is not good on a deathclock.
So, with that said, I really like the Jaws theme (most because I enjoy Big B) and I have picked up a few new models recently. I will be playing tonight to test it out and get a feel for it ahead of the tournament. Here is what I have come up with now and I would like to hear your thoughts on the list:
B3/Jaws (75/75) Butcher 3 -War Argus -Behemoth -Ruin -Decimator -Juggernaut -Marauder -Destroyer Manhunter (Free) Widowmaker Marksman (Free) Battle Mechaniks (Min) -Battle Mechanik Office (Free)
I have thought about keeping B1 over B3, but I just got B3 and am interested in trying him out. I have also thought about getting a second Manhunter in this list either by taking out the MM or BM Officer.
Thanks for your suggestions! -Z

I would leave the list the way it is. Just remember theme bonus of your opponent looses AD and your mechs get repo 3. Just make sure to have fun!

Do you have a war dog? This little boy will help you a lot as Butcher has to play offensive and given your inexperience - it is likely something can get to your caster. But that additional +2 def helps imensely!

Shouldn't the War Argus' provide enough support to keep things from charging at B3 at least? -Z

Yes, the argus can get in the way but the WarDog helps him with the def bonus in case they do make it to him.

Drop the Mek Officer for a War Dog IMO.

Ok, I played this list last night with the only change being I dropped the Mek Officer for a second Manuhunter. I technically won on assassination, but my opponent did give me some pointers on the last two rounds to help me get into position to do the the thing. I am thinking about keeping the manhunters over the War Dog just because they can do some work and contest zones. Also, I am thinking of dropping the Destroyer and Marauder in favor of two more Juggernauts. I the bombard on the destroyer did not do much to help with, well, anything, so I think upping my melee focus with another juggy is a sound play. And since I have the points to play with, I figured I would grab the other Juggernaut just cause I could. Let me know your thoughts.
Also, I need a second list to pair this with. This list will not be good against infantry spam, so I am thinking of either making a WGK theme with Vlad 1 or a Legion of Steel list with... well, I am not sure yet, as the warcaster. I would love to know your thoughts on these two themes, their anti-infantry strengths, and who to best run the Legion list.
Thanks for your help! -Z

You still have an option to drop Meks for the Dog As anti-infantry default goes Vladimir1 in WGK. But you can try out Irusk2 in JotW as well.

I think I would be looking more at dropping the Decimator and Destroyer for two extra Juggernauts or Kodiak.

I thought about doing this, as I have played two games with the Jaws theme and the mechanics have either been wiped of the board or otherwise ineffective. Do you really think the +2 def from the War Dog outweighs the potential repair benefit of the Meks?

I only have one game with either model and neither did anything for me within the game. The Decimator is currently over costed by 2 points because it's in the starter box and they refuse the change the points values of those models. The Marauders combo smite is actually a pretty decent ability (you get to charge and line up the slam to go where you want when normally a slam has to be directly towards the model). Dropping the Decimator will also give you a few extra points to play with.

Lose the decimator, take a destroyer instead. Also, I can't stress this enough: Buy 2 forge seers. They should always be 2 of your free solos, they are what makes this theme work.

Thank you guys for the feedback. I played this weekend and did ok for my first tournament. I played legion first with... I can't remember her name, but the guy said both of his casters were the two best in legion. Anyhow, I did my Jaws theme into this and if I did not mess up a rule, I had a really good shot to win! But, I didn't, lol. The guy that beat me won the whole tournament though. Second game I played a Winter Guard Kommand theme with Vlad1. Despite my opponents repeated attempts to let me win by rolling terribly...I lost on clock. There are a LOT of models and I need to get faster. I think this game was also into Legion. Third game was into Convergence and I went back to my Jaws list because A) It is fun and B) there are fewer models so the clock is more on my side. My opponent made a major mistake concerning the rules that he did not seek clarity on from the judge and it pretty much cost him the game. I assassinated his caster, Father Lucant I believe, with Butcher! All in all, not a bad showing for my first tournament. I learned a lot and had a ton of fun. Looking forward to the next one.
