I was just thinking the other day about how Strakhov showed up with a bunch of spells we never expected in Khador (Last Stand, Quicken, an armour buff that works on jacks...), and I figure that, being the sneaky sod he is, he probably went off and stole them from some other factions. Of course the endeavor cost him his eye... and then suddenly it occurred to me: that's exactly what happened to Odin! Odin went searching for knowledge, culminating in his trading his eye for wisdom, and in a way so did Strakhov. Also Odin has two ravens (Hope and Mercy I believe), while Strakhov now has two sidekicks with definite raven-like qualities (dressed in black, the bird-like look of the gas masks, very "flightly" what with Reposition... OK that last one was a stretch). Funnily enough, Zerkova also has one eye and two familiars (and I think it's pretty much established that she lost the eye while searching for knowledge, and never regretted it).
I just thought that was interesting. Was it co-incidence or was PP actually paying homage to the old myths, like the whole Old Witch/Baba Yaga thing? Has anyone noticed any other strong parallels to mythology, or anything like that?

Nice observation, I don't know if it's on purpose, but could be. Of course there's OW/Baba Yaga, but also Vlad. (Vlad the Implaer, the inspiration for Dracula. Seeing how big the old Russian empire stretched, which has been an inspiration for khador, they've got quite a few cultures to get myths from. See this map for an impression of the size around 1900.

Heh, forgot about Vlad. Perhaps that's because while he is visually reminiscent of Dracula, and PP keeps giving him rules with the word "blood" in them, I don't really pick up a "vampire" vibe from him (and I don't really know much about the original legends that Dracula was based on).
I guess it could be argued that Sorscha borrows from the witch in the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe? Although the whole "ice queen" thing is a bit of a generic character type now.

The Ice Queen is a Story from someplace that eventually ended up in Russia. It was the story that was bastardized to make the shallow, hollow, bullshit, abomination that was Frozen.
The Ice Queen Has no heart, so maybe she's a reference? I think she's more a reference to Russian Ice Queens in general, which IS an archetype.

This one might be going out on a limb here, but Irusk may be a reference to Alexander Suvorov. He was a close advisor to Catherine the Great (The Empress); a great military strategist who wrote his own military manual named "The science of victory"; and his battles against the Polish kind of remind me of the invasion of Llael. This may be me looking for things that are not there though.

Don't get me started on the paradoxically hot mess that is Frozen. "Man isn't Love at first sight a shallow writing archetype?" "Ha Ha, Yeah. Hey did you notice that I have like 6 minutes onscreen total with my sister?" Blugh. At least fairytales don't pretend to be sassier and smarter than they really are.

I think Rowdy and UncleDouglas are too upset about this whole thing. Guys, just let it go, let it go... Sorry I couldn't resist.

A long long time ago ( in a edition far far away.) Vlad used to have a spell called Impaler in MKI. Also, if you can find any of the MKI books physical or online, Vlad used to speak like a vampire.

Yeah. I have my old MKI books and it's true. He's the Count Dracula of Immoren.

"How many berserkers did you bring Vlad?" Asked Irusk.
"All of vem." Vlad replied before turning into a bat and flying away to go poop on Stryker's ginger head.
