So I am in the middle of painting my WGRC, and generally don't like to play games with models that are in the painting process, and decided to look at what lists I could run while I finish them up. To my surprise I only had one list (Harkevich) which did not include WGRC. That got me thinking, what are some lists people have had success with that don't include the rifle corps but are also not just jack spam? I'm mostly curious for my own benefit so I'm not forced to only play Harkevich for a few weeks because I am a rather slow painter, but also because I think there must be plenty of good balanced lists out there which do not include the rifle corps.

Zerkova1 Legion of Steel, Irusk2 Jaws of the Wolf, Butcher3 Winter Guard Kommand, Strakhov1, Zerkova2, Irusk1. First few I've played that worked well Cheers, Dave

Have you tried Legion of Steel? Not a winterguard in sight and usually not very jack centric. Good caster choices include Strakhov2, Zerkova1 and Irusk2.
If you don't want to go the iron fang route, B3 can have WGRC in his list but there are builds that don't include them, B3 list can vary wildly and still be successful, thanks to B3's own killing power.
Otherwise, Strakhov1 doesn't care for the WGRC and actually performs better with the winterguard infantry in my opinion.

The WGI actually work really well in plenty of lists. You could try just swapping them in and see how they go for you...

I'm playing wgi instead, just throwaway min units with rockets.
If carriage makes it through CID with 38 boxes then it should be a viable replacement for wg units in theme. Before themes hit widowmakers+marksman+bailoch was quite good wgrc replacement for long range shooting. Especially for casters that didn't have a useful upkeep to put up on a big unit. Widowmakers+marksman are still good in themes they're available in, you have to either take lots of jacks or kayazy to fill points without wg though.
4 units of artillery is a viable alternative to big wgrc unit in terms of damage if you knockdown+shoot something big or shoot mortars at infantry not immune to blasts. You'll again need caster that has control zone buffs rather than upkeep buffs.

I've enjoyed Butcher1 in Winterguard Kommand using WGI:
Butcher1 -Ruin -Juggernaut -Kodiak -Kodiak -Marauder -Marauder
Max WGI + UA Max WGI + UA
Kovnik Joe
28 points of Winterguard gets me one of the UAs for free, and 75 points to spend on a nice big battlegroup. It's an ARM cracking list (even the WGI do that well with CRAs or Bear's Strength + Fury, in both cases even better on Feat turn). On Feat, 2-man CRAs from WGI can take big chunks out of high ARM. Lower threat range than WGRC, but WGI still threat 14" with move and shoot, which is respectable when the shooting is fairly high POW (and then reposition to get away a bit). I think people are still focusing on Mk2 WGI as spray shooters and missing the potential from basic blunderbuss shooting.
Struggles a bit against high DEF, but eventually quantity of WGI sprays means some will hit eventually and you can actually cast Full Throttle profitably in those match-ups.

Supreme Kommandant Irusk - WJ: +27 -Sylys Wyshnalyrr, The Seeker - PC: 4 -Destroyer - PC: 14 (Battlegroup Points -Used: 14) -Ruin - PC: 17 (Battlegroup Points Used: 13)
-Man-O-War Kovnik - PC: 5 -Kovnik Andrei Malakov - PC: 4 -Juggernaut - PC: 12 -Ragman - PC: 4
-Kayazy Eliminators - Leader & Grunt: 5 -Kayazy Eliminators - Leader & Grunt: 5 -Man-O-War Shocktroopers - Leader & 4 Grunts: 16 -Man-O-War Shocktrooper Officer - PC: 4 -Battle Mechaniks - Leader & 3 Grunts: 3 -Great Bears of the Gallowswood - Volkov, Kolsk, & Yarovich: 9
This is my current version a list im building. Just recently swapped a juggy and devastator for ruin and bears. I like the options this army has. Some hard targets to eat through, and aoes arent a problem for me.

Khador Army - 75 / 75 points
(Butcher 1) Orsus Zoktavir, The Butcher of Khardov [+28] - Juggernaut [12] - Kodiak [13] - Kodiak [13] - Ruin [17] - War Dog [3] Man-O-War Kovnik [5] Man-O-War Kovnik [5] Man-O-War Demolition Corps (max) [15] Man-O-War Shocktroopers (max) [16] - Man-o-War Shocktrooper Officer [4]
This list is fun, and surprisingly hard for opponents to deal with. With Iron Flesh on the Demo Corps and Fury on Shocktroppers, htey're both hard to remove and hard hitting on the feet.

I disliked the WGI on release, but I'v come to realise PP wasn't completely stupid when designing them. With the point cost reduction they are just right. A turn of gun-fighter sprays is actually really good. Sure they lost 2" on the spray but gained 2 power and with gun-fighter the threat range is actually better than the 8" sprays were.

Hmm some interesting ideas here. Honestly I have never tried WGI at all for no particular reason, I should give them a go and see how they do. As for legion of steel I don't have the models to run it but I am very interested in it, especially with the new all in one coming out. I think I might need to have a game with it on vassal because I love the look of iron fang pikemen and I'm also pretty interested in trying out Zerkova 1. Also, Irusk 2 jaws of the wolf never occurred to me but I could see that making some sense with kayazy and jacks everywhere. I'll give some of these a try because I feel like I crutch pretty hard on WGRC but there might be some fun things out there I have been missing as a result.

And then you Ghostly through the models that just engaged you, mini-feat and start taking down anything other than a heavy jack...

Hmm I like the sounds of this and have been looking for more reasons to run kayazy assassins.

Two of my three lists at a recent tournament lacked rifle corps (though it did feel weird... ended up going 3-1 though without even playing the Sorscha list that had the rifle corps). My only regret is that I was unable to get my hands on forge seers in time . Each of these got played twice. (Butcher 3) Kommander Zoktavir, The Butcher Unleashed [+22] - Behemoth [25] - Devastator [14] - Devastator [14] - Kodiak [13] - Ruin [17] - War Dog [3] Manhunter [0(4)] Manhunter [0(4)] Widowmaker Marksman [0(4)] Kayazy Eliminators [5] Kayazy Eliminators [5] and (Old Witch 1) The Old Witch of Khador [+18] - Kodiak [13] - Kodiak [13] - Ruin [17] Kell Bailoch [5] Widowmaker Marksman [4] Doom Reaver Swordsmen [13] Doom Reaver Swordsmen [13] Greylord Ternion [7] Widowmaker Scouts [8]
