Hey guys,
So since Hungerford confirmed, that some legacy models will be part of the CID, I'm interested in your ideas on what needs to be done to get the units competitive. I guess my bigges quarry are the very limited threat ranges of Assault troopers and the Storm Troopers getting outshone by the Railless in every area for the same 16pts.
Aside from the Vengeance-bandaid I'm not really sure, what needs to be done to get our boys ins line. Maybe something along the lines of +charge range if target is burning/corroded may be a fix. I'm absolutely at a loss for the Storm Troopers though.

Our X troopers just need a solid UA or something. Assaults aren't terrible if you just look at what you get for the points (13), it's just that there's previously little that does something for them; no pathfinder, no vengeance, no tactician etc. Etc.
Part of the problem is that there's such a pile of BS in the game that "just alright" means you just get clapped by good stuff.

It's hard to wishlist without asking for something that's equal to the pile of OP models. But any of the typical UA/Solo options would all be welcome: desperate pace, relentless charge, cleave, defensive strike, etc. The most interesting and thematic option would be a solo/UA who gives our medium based infantry drugs (taking damage, like Lukas) to make them crazy strong/fast/accurate/relentless/whatever.

I think making new models would be unlikely. So any changes would have to not rely on unit attachments.
Spitballin'
Storm Troopers Gains Rapid Fire. Gains "When this unit makes a ranged attack in its maintenance phase due to rapid fire, this weapon has +4 range. Pneumatic Concussion Cannon gains: On a direct hit, you may push the hit model 1" directly away from this model.
Alternatively give them a pua that grants the above and maybe some extra troops (cause 16+4 points for an ua is a lot for these models.
Assault Troopers Gains Vengeance
Alternatively give them an ua that grants them the above and maybe pathfinder (though pathfinder does not feel in flavor for these guys)
The Combat Stim option does seem very flavorful.
Alternative Assault Troopers change then:
Combat stims On the start of this units activation you may select one of the following effects for this unit until end of turn:
Blood Oxygen Enhancer: This units gain +2" movement during its normal movement face. Painkiller: This unit gains Tough Adrenaline Injection: This unit gains Relentless Charge and Beeeerseer... okay maybe not. Adrenaline Injection: This unit gains relentless charge and +1 Mat
If you select any combat stim option each model in the unit takes 1 damage at the end of its activation.
I don't know. Vengeance is probably better.
But I never played Crucible so I don't know what'd fit the faction.

Relentless Charge isn't so much as (un)fluffy as it is just pure necessity for a slowish dedicated melee unit.
Vengeance would be very nice, but honestly. Assuming support that gives that is 4 points, would you take it over, say, a unit of Resolutes with our esteemed licensed medical professional?

Maybe it'd be nice if they tie the Vengeance part to the Prima Materia theme (similar to Flames), since there is absolutely no incentive picking the only avaliable Infantry there right now. Although I doubt they'll change the themes much, they'll probably introduce a new one which amphasizes the "drugs" Aspect more. Love the combat Stims approach, very thematic and cool.
Storm Troopers probably need a kind of feature which is more than "shoot til dead". Something along the lines of a covering fire aoe or combined AoE attack (looking at you, trollkin barrage team). Just different shot types probably won't make them more desirable, since this area ist mostly covered by jacks and railless.

Letting them borrow ammo types from our jacks within X range would be cool.
Assault Troopers are probably going to get completely outshone by the new "failed" experiments.
Best solution is to drop their price.

Best solution is to drop their price. Ammo Types are never the answer. :-p But for real, I think various randos have suggested ammo types for every single model with a gun in every single CID. Exactly zero models got ammo types added, as far as I recall, heh.

It's too hard to balance or future prof and likely wouldn't be good or nicessarikybfun, just "cool". Whatever you do with either, you are still looking at direct competition from Resolutes + Mosby. And a lot of that comes from that we don't really have a "melee infantry caster".
