I'm a Khador player who's started dabbling in Mercs after realizing I already had a bunch of mercs upon finally painting up my Kayazy and Nyss. I then found a small Magnus 1 army at my local game store, with a galleon. What do people normally run with Magnus 1? He looks versatile. Also, can the galleon fire with all of its guns and still punch the harpoon target? Am I reading that right? Or can it simply shoot the harpoon?
Thanks.

Resolving the Drag rule switches you from ranged attacks to melee attacks. So you fire all the deck guns, then the harpoon, resolve Drag, then proceed into your melee attacks.

there is no wrong answer for what to run with magnus1 because he has a spell for everything, but you should run one renegade no matter what. there is also no right answer because he doesn't have a damage or speed buff so he cant get out of teh land of mediocrity!!!

Wow. Sounds like the galleon can get some work done.
Also seems like there are some cool synergies to be taken advantage of, as long as you bring enough armor cracking. When I finally get to run Magnus 1, I plan on bringing a galleon, nomad, renegade, and Nyss hunters. That sound like enough? Maybe I need another nomad?

Next month I am taking this to a tournament- Mags1 Reinholt Renegade x2 Vanguard Gastone Galleon Dougal SH riflemen Rupert Ragman
Its funny to threat 23" with a drag catching heavies on turn 1 if your lucky.

How do you threat 23" with the drag? Galleon walks up 5" and shoots the harpoon 14" with snipe. That's 19", right? Where's the extra 4"?

Looks like a fun list though. Seems like Ragman is your answer to the armor heavy meta of mkiii. Good idea. I bet you start up a heavy most games after walking Ragman up, popping death shroud, then walking the galleon up and simply pulling some poor model in and punching it to death with two or three whacks.
I can't wait to try that.

Are you counting on a renegade knocking down the harpoon target, or do you boost the harpoon shot? Magnus's knockdown spell is expensive, but if you really need to knock down a high-defense warpwolve, for example, I could see spending the four focus on that.

This just lets him do a single melee and allows him to buy additional melee attacks. He doesn't get all ranged initials and then all melee initials. That's why it generally pays to load him up (extra attacks).

He's only missing out on one initial melee attack. That's awesome.

Does anyone else have a Magnus 1 list they'd like to share?

I personally like to run at least one renegade and 2 freebooters. With a knockdown spell on a stick, they get a ton of work done easily. Being able to arc through the renegade makes it easy to keep him safe, as well.

I usually run Galleon with Gastone. With 4 more point you can have max focus point, 16" Rng Gun and 12" Harpoon and 2 magical shoot when needed. Just make sure you hide your Gastone well.
