So I finally got my dire troll kit today (yay!) and a little question popped into my mind.
I'm gonna assemble the kit as a mauler permanently so no magnets and I like the bomber head more than the mauler one. Is it a terrible thing if I assemble it with the mauler hands and back mohawk but using the bomber head? I'd like to think those bits would be enough to identify the model as a mauler but I thought it would be better to ask.
Feel free to move this to a proper place if this is wrong one. :x

To my knowledge, that should be legal as it is obvious to any onlooker, the difference between a bomber and mauler (open big meaty fists vs barrels of fun). So even in PP endorsed tournaments where personal modifications to models have some restrictions, I think you still meet them by using mostly mauler parts (and all PP parts). For any casual or local games you do, it would be fine no matter what.

Casual games it should be fine for sure. In a tournament game that would be up for discretion of the EO but If the only thing changed is the head I have a hard time seeing them deciding that its not discernible as a mauler

The conversion rules are set out in the steamroller pack (both current and the one in CID) Changing the head doesn't break these rules!

Maybe I'm misinterpreting this but wouldn't it still be considered a conversion? if so it just has to be considered clearly discernible as the model its meant to represent by the EO right?

They changed those rules. The model has the correct weaponry, is made entirely of PP bits and on top of all that is clearly discernible as a Mauler. So it doesn't go to the EO at all.
I suppose we're arguing the same thing, but in practice it's not something you would even waste the EO's time with.

The EO could theoretically ban basically any conversion, but in practice, i really doubt you would ever have any issues. As always, make sure to inform your opponent what the model is supposed to be. In sweden, we are super relaxed about conversions. Most tournaments i have been to has had models with 0% PP parts in them and no one gives a F. As long as the model looks pretty much like it should, we wont complain. Maybe other countries have other mind sets on this issue, but in reality, if you are allowed to use the model in your home store/group and in most tournaments, and if you want to go to that one tournament where they wont allow the conversion, that is probably a big tournament, right? Just ask beforehand, and you can be sure that some one there can lend you the proper model. PS. If you havent seen it already, here is my guide to magnetizing a Dire Troll kit privateerpressforums.com/showthread.php?269066-Guide-to-magnetizing-a-Dire-Troll-kit&p=3817801#post3817801

Here is my guide:
1. Search eBay for "magnetized dire troll." 2. Purchase.
Lol. I couldn't help it. I got mine for $3 less than if I bought the kit and all the work was done. Sweet!

Thanks for the input, guys. I don't think I'll be playing in any big tournaments but I decided to check my plan here so I don't get b-ed at because I used the wrong head. If I had the skill, I would definitely consider magnetizing the kit but I really don't wanna risk ruining a 30+€ model. And since mauler seems to be pretty damn common pick for lists, it shouldn't be a huge loss.

Swapping heads is only disallowed in one case, and that is when you're using an Upgrade Kit like the original Rok. Such a model must use ALL of the parts from the upgrade kit. Speaking of magnetizing, that is the best use of upgrade kits.
Yeah, I do a lot of conversions...

If someone b*ed at you for switching the bomber and mauler head I think you've either caught someone on a very bad day or you're about to play perhaps the most unpleasant WMH player you'll meet for quite some time. And magnetizing is actually pretty easy since all you need is a drill bit, pin vise, superglue, and some magnets. I personally don't like magnetized models so I've only done it on 2 of my kits but it makes a lot of financial/storage sense to do it.

Could a mauler cast rage on multiple warbeasts?

A warbeast can only use its animus once per activation
