Hello all. While not the best choice of watbeasts at our disposal I love the battle bugs. I believe it's an affinity for praying mantis. I know they are slow. But incredibly durable to shooting. And the beast pack will be cool I believe.
Does the warrior have a place? The sentinel gets chosen more than the other, at least for what I've seen. And which 'locks really make them shine? I only own Naaresh at the moment but plan on getting Zaadesh when he is fully released

The Soldier, once it reaches the tarpit, can easily deal just as much damage as a bronzeback titan, if not more. Its weapons have a 2 inch reach and pull that can screw with b2b buffs. Its mandibles are generally just for show, considering everything usually dies just with its claws. Its weapon also ignores buckler and shield buffs ^-^ If you are comparing the two, the Soldier is a clear cut winner. However!
The Sentinel is cheaper than a cannoneer, has a more accurate gun, and gets additional damage di on living models. The AoE also acts like a hazard, making it very effective at controlling the movements of single box models (if they attempt to move through they auto die). Its claw damage is pretty solid, almost enough to put it on par with the cannoneer. Basically, it's a utility piece that sees more action in shorter games than the Soldier, but doesn't have near the punching power later on.
Any caster that can boost their movement or speed is going to make these bad boys show up on time for the party. They can easily thrash and are hell for ranged attackers (the +4 arm does not go away from blessed weapons and increases their base armor to 22, 24 with the krea aura). Push them up the board hard like a screening model when facing against gunlines and watch even Cygnar cry x.x; The Sentinel is not meant for melee so keeping it a little back from the actual tarpit is the safe solution. The Soldier should be focused on smashing face.

For the most part, Soldiers are excellent heavies. It's pretty evident they need a speed buff, but combining them with warlocks like Xerxis2 and Morghoul1 can help, or even tip them over into the realm of high threat ranges (12" threat with Xerxis2 and Rush).
I hate fawning over Xerxis2, but with Ignite and Enrage I've had a Soldier ruin a colossal with fury to spare. These guys hit like Bronzebacks, but also have a neat pull utility (I've killed so many casters with that pull!) and are nearly impervious to shooting.
Sentinels, on the other hand, seem to have been retooled for a meta I'm not a part of, that of infantry and a large presence of Hordes factions. Legion and Circle do make it to the table once in a while around here, but the Sentinel's piddly 14" ranged threat is not ideal, especially when the Hordes beasts are coming back at him hard and fast in the form of tooth and claw after his single squirt.
The scather was a good idea, and with Hexy2 and Black Spot it might still be, but the AOE is tiny. If you insist on playing Sentinels, do yourself a favor and avoid perusing the Canoneer, or even the Mammoth; these warbeasts outclass the Sentinel in virtually every way.
Despite my negative opinion of the Sentinel, I do think it has a place in a skew list that's dedicated to anti-shooting. I just would rather skew in the form of a question rather than that of an answer.

I hate fawning over Xerxis2, . ..., says the guy with Xerxis2 as his forum icon.

Ha ha, I'm just a damn fanboy of Xerxis2! One might say I "extol" him incessantly.
Weirdly enough, I'm bringing Mak1 and Xerxis1 to a big tourney this weekend.

I love both bugs. The sentinels has the cool AOE and has a pretty good punch. I do have to say the Soldier is more impressive. That pull ability is amazing! I remember I was able to move a light jack once and exposed the caster for deeper ramming!
I'm hoping they get a Character Beast soon.

Considering that Aradii are the only non-client slave beast in the arsenal without a character, they have to make Zaal's Construct beast one.

on the PP forums right before they closed it down we were discussing exactly what the "queen" would be like. We came up with several ideas from a colossal based beast to even a hybrid species warlock. The entire thing began even before the errata where we were thinking of just how to tie the bugs in with Skorne philosophy. If it meant having sole control over an entire species of beasts, Skorne would even turn one of their own into a queen. Near the end of us working it out, we had decided it would make most sense for one of the smaller houses to sacrifice one of their own to gain control over the Aradus. This would make the potential queen a member of the Skorne (thus not in the way of their desire for genocide) while perfectly matching the "power is pain, pain is sacrifice" type philosophy that the Skorne tends to follow. I guess like our theoretical work gained quite a bit of popularity and thus a rumor ensued.

Demonic has it. And I fully support this move.
