Tartarus is a unique case as he was banished to the void by morrowan priests, he didn't just naturally end up there. Trolls were born from both the devourer wurm and dhunia, they used to worship the wurm but they now have mostly abandoned it in favor of dhunia.

Skorne souls go to the Abyss. It was tought that they were destroyed there, but Zaal came back so it's still unclear. Ummmm, no.
Skorne souls were never thought to be destroyed in the Void. Exalted have had their souls returned from the void to inhabit stone bodies, and these souls can communicate with their fellow skorne. Void Seer's can also talk with souls who are currently in the void. Thats actually what happened before any exalted were created. The Skorne invented a way to talk with the souls of their dead, they learned the void is a terrible place, so they went about inventing a way to escape it(exaltation).

You're right on the priests. I dont know why I thought it was morrowan when the defeat of the mulgore was the beginning of golden age for the menite priest kings.
As for Skorne I thought all of the exalted and their immortal companions were captured in sacral stones before their souls had a chance to fall into the void. The spirits that Skorne do draw out of the void are mad and manifest as void spirits.

I thought it was a mixture. Void Spirits are ones that have been driven mad by their time in the void, but you can also draw a spirit back that hasn't gone mad yet.

the comunity: DEEP talk about lore and implication.
PP: spezmarine feora and biker helga FOR the lulz.
in all seriousness i am curious, i thought infernals "destroyed" the souls to create essence and horrors. after all the gods seems to actively react to their presence unlike...the soul harvesting cryx.

Even with the Cryxians, at least the souls eventually go to Urcaen. They go traumatized and wrung of energy and don't end up where they're supposed to go. but with the Infernals the souls leave the natural cycle and go somewhere else. Somewhere 'other'. Now the Infernals may not be doing this out of malice. Its not like they're trying to cause pain and suffering. As far as they're concerned, they're just bartering with some extra-dimensional beings for valuable material. They're businessmen, who enforce their contracts with vigor. Given their 'other' nature, the Infernals could be forgiven for doing what they do. Infernalists on the other hand, they are definitely evil. They sell the souls of innocent people to further their own power. They do it knowing exactly what harm they are causing. And they do it anyway. They are deliberately evil. Thamar is also a bit evil for having bartered away souls that did not belong to her in exchange for magic for humanity. In real life, Witch Hunters and Inqusitor's did some bad stuff on flimsy justification. but in a world where magic exists, you can verify someone's guilt fairly easily. If someone is literally raising the dead or stealing souls, and given that you can actually see them doing that, then its totally justified to hunt for people. Witch Hunts aren't evil if you actually find a witch. Exactly, from the infernal point of view, souls are like a resource. No one cries for the carrots, even though tomorrow is harvest day and for them it is the holocaust. No one cries for the tree that is turned into paper. And this is what makes infernals alien. They chop up your soul into pieces, spread it into different things, meld it with the gibbering fragments of other souls, and turn you into....sheets of paper. Sure the paper screams with the voice of a thousand tortured schizophrenic personalities every time you write on it but you can't beat the quality. Unlike Thamarites (who seek perfection and individual strength), infernalists are always evil. The simple reasons greed and desperation. Anyone who seeks out help of an infernal, even for well intentioned reasons, do so because their power to affect change within the cycles of natural law are impossible. And since they know the cost of working outside of natural laws, even if they started out good and well intentioned, their desire to avoid the "toll" at any cost drives them to do evil.

I also had the impression that Exalted souls are "saved" before going into the void, pretty much as Cyrissyst souls are stored into soul chambers before reaching Urcaen. To my knowledge, Zaal is the only Skorne who as been to the Void and returned.

Maybe I’m misremembering. Either way, we know that the skorne can communicate with souls in the void. That’s how they found out it was so bad in the first place. So we know at the least they are not destroyed.
