Hi everyone, I got an old MkII 2 Player Battle Box (Mainly for the Menoth half for test games with new players). I own one unit of Schocktroopers already and plan to get the Man-o-War theme box. So my question: how reasonable is it to play double shock troopers? I got the second unit cheap so that's a plus, but I will have to buy the expensive attachement twice. So the question is : keep or not keep. I have many things that I will have to buy so saving a bit of money would be okay. Please discuss how good you think they are as doubles and with what casters. Bonus question: what plastic parts of the kits are required for torch and Black Ivan? Can you reasonably magnetize them? I already have 6 juggernaut chassis(es?) , so I think Sorcha and the two Jacks will be sold off, if I can keep the two character Jacks exchangebale. Thanks for any feedback!

I have magnetised one warjack to be capable of running as both Torch and Black Ivan (as well as the usual suspects): soulsamurai.blogspot.com/2015/08/casey-jones-warjack-of-all-trades.html?m=1Do the tournament rules still state you need all parts of the conversion kit? If so I guess you need to magnetise Torch's medal (not too hard) and smoke launchers (quite hard, especially if you want them swappable with Black Ivan's spikes). Other than that you need to magnetise the wrists (Black Ivan's claw swaps with the right hand, and Torch's flamethrower hand swaps with the left - it's really hard to magnetise the flamethrower so you will probably need a spare hand for it) and the arms (so you can swap the Bombard on the left and Decimator saw on the right). You could skip magnetising the arms if you are willing to get a bit creative, which is what I did on my last jack: Torch got a replacement weapon: While I mangled together a passable "bombard hand" for a Destoyer:

If I'm playing Armoured Corps with only two full units, I'd go Shocks + Demos. But by far and away my preferred mode of playing is 3 full units, and then I go straight for double shocks.
I've tried it with both Irusks, Vlad2, Kozlov, Zerkova1 and Butcher1 to great effect, and I'm sure they're far from the only viable casters. I particularly like it with Irusk2 where you pretty much don't need Atanas, which frees up some points for more support.
They've won me so many games just by being so damn difficult to remove with a durability boost. If they've got something like Ragman/HoF/B1 feat up, their Assault charges can rip anything to bits. And having the second unit means that if you have to split your forces you can have two solid flanks; if you go one of each MoW unit you end up with the Shocktrooper flank, and the flank that folds like a cheap map.
So yeah, there's plenty of scope for using double shocks.

I own 7 units of Shocktroopers so I am probably not the person to ask.

I like double Shocks (with attachment) with Sorscha3. They're tough enough that you can be fairly confident on still having a significant number of Flank triggering models available. Add Ragman (who loves Shocktroopers to keep himself alive) and your Shocks and jacks are hitting really hard. They also mean there aren't really any weaker spots in your front line - it's all ARM20+. Against gunlines, that can be a significant advantage.
Other people like a unit of max Demo Corps instead, but I prefer a min unit or two, sending them out against single targets frozen by Sorscha3.

Nay to owning double Shocks. Yay to owning Tripple Shocks! Amateur. You’re not serious until you own more than FA.

I think I play my 3 units just as often as you play 2+ caster games

I think I play my 3 units just as often as you play 2+ caster games I admit that I haven’t played Unbound yet this year, but that is chiefly because I’ve been in the trifecta of “promoting MonPoc + preparing to promote Company of Iron + making little to no progress on my own models because of the first two items in this list”. Also, Winter sucks.

Thanks forvall the answers! I think I might keep both units then. Just need to think about where to get the UAs from....

I quit enjoy double shockies with S3. I think it might be the optimal way to play her.

Amateur. You’re not serious until you own more than FA. my man! I’m pretty sure I only have 7 units of Shocktroopers. But I’d have to go re-count the plastic ones.
