and if a janitor was still a janitor, he would not be called facility manager and a programmer would not be software developer. it is the usual corporate speech nowadays, it is supposed to somehow boost productivity through self-consciousness (or catering to ego). it is very different how corporations handle their structure and titles and there are no rules, there is the CFO and CTO if you look for them (i am a big fan of "chief lizard wrangler"). Matt Wilson calls himself CCO, Chief Creative Officer, and i doubt he put someone above himself. but i'm getting ot.

That's where the "Executive" part comes in. The CEO directs the company as a whole on a day to day basis, they do not focus on one sole aspect of the company to the exclusion of others.
Even from there, part of the issues with getting a market to open up is addressing your competition. On a larger scale, there is GW, both financially and the size of the games they present. On a smaller scale, there is Corvus Belli, which presents a smaller game scale than Warmachine. Those are currently the big dogs in Europe and not even including other non-European companies that may be trying to get their way in.
So, having aspects of the game addressed to make it more desirable and palatable to that market without reducing their home market is part of what a CEO makes decisions on. They may not be presenting the initial options on how to address it (those come through the CCO, for example), but they pick from the options presented by the CCO, often with input from Marketing/Sales and Finance so that coordination is amplified.

What has Mr Wilson done over the years to garner resentment? Had a little Google but can't find anything really, but the way people talk about him makes me think there must be something there

in theory you are correct, but remember PP is still a small enterprise. anybody can be a "chief" or "executive". and again, Mat and wife are still in charge and Bob is supposed to fix the EU. which did not need fixing if the mk3 entry was handled better and if model availability was not measured in centuries. and if translation existed.

And when you present such things to the business worlds, those are the expectations of such, and that includes any applicant for the position from outside the company.
And if you get a reputation for misrepresenting what a position involves, you start not having good applicants, which starts sending the company downhill in an escalating manner.

What has Mr Wilson done over the years to garner resentment? Had a little Google but can't find anything really, but the way people talk about him makes me think there must be something there You're going to get some wildly varying responses to this question. In my interactions with him, he is an extremely narcissistic person who is more concerned with making himself a big time movie director than he is running the company he helped create. He forced out the McVeys from PP, and DC, who were both very influential developers and creators for the game. He gets a lot of flack from the community because of these traits and his relatively oblivious nature to the actual state of the game. Others here will tell you he is the omnissiah. It really depends on what mood he was in when you met him I guess.

Some people — not naming names, mind you, but you can figure it out! — seemingly have an axe to grind against various PP staff. Those people tend to grind said axe loudly in threads like these.
Meanwhile, people who have actually talked to PP staff more than once in their lives tend to report that they’re all generally cool people. They would also tend to report that it’s pretty wacky to claim inside knowledge of PP’s office politics (“forced so-and-so out”) while simultaneously mentioning they have never talked to those people and never travel to cons where they could get to know the PP staff.
So, you know. Stuff.
I swear, it’s like friggin’ junior high up in here some days...

I have a friend of a friend whose ex-roommate’s former bowling coach’s second cousin once worked in the shipping department at PP, and he told me that their first choice was acrually Tom Kirby, but he didn’t want to move across the pond.

So, you know. Stuff. I swear, it’s like friggin’ junior high up in here some days... "it's like friggin' junior high up in here" this from the guy who is all passive aggressive with his "you know who" comment. You wanna call me out, that's fine, call me out. You can say "Shiver is a dick" and I would respect you a little more. Hell, if you are worried about moderator retribution you could even phrase it in a way that wouldn't offend them or break rules, like "I think shiver had a negative interaction and that may be coloring his interpretation of him". But saying its like junior high because I'm at least honest with my "axe to grind" when you lack the sack to ante up and call someone out and instead choosing to do it in a passive-aggressive way is just dumb. Also, I have met Wilson, I have not met soles, and my frustration with him (soles) is entirely different (but still based on his voluntary interaction with the community, and with players). Also, I never said I don't travel to cons, I certainly do, and I have made reference to that in multiple threads and posts. Its one thing if you want to call me out, that's fine, but at least make some attempt at being accurate.
