So I’m new and don’t get doomies. Sell me on why they are better than pikemen? Pikemen seem pretty strong but not played in tournaments. Is magic resist that useful? Is it just because the doomy model is cool? *Whispers: They really aren't that good. People are just obsessed with them because Mk2...*

So I’m new and don’t get doomies. Sell me on why they are better than pikemen? Pikemen seem pretty strong but not played in tournaments. Is magic resist that useful? Is it just because the doomy model is cool? They hit much harder because of Weapon Master, and they have Magical Weapons so they can attack anything. They have slightly better defence and tough in return for a loss of Shield Wall. Berzerk means they're very good against infantry, but you have to watch your positioning Magic resistance is a wash, really; canny opponents can find ways to hit them with sprays and chain lightning anyway, but it stops upkeeps... including your own. So they're hard to support. They are the archetypal Glass Cannon models. If you can deliver them, they'll do more damage than the IFP and strangely they tend to be just as survivable once they've charged. Why people are excited now is a) They're being updated, and everyone loves a shiny new thing, and b) They have had their points dropped to the level where you can field 8 units, compared to the 5 max before. This means you can put an absolute horde on the field; 48 tough models which hit hard enough to destroy anything can be absolute hell for some lists. There's also a nostalgia factor; in the previous version of the game Butcher2 had a theme force called 'Mad Dogs of War' which would let you run 7-10 units of Doom Reavers, depending on the points level. It was pretty hilarious fun, and I seem to recall it could be surprisingly effective even though it was so one-dimensional.

I don't think we should get too attached to the idea of 9 point Doomreavers. I don't follow CIDs too closely, but I've heard people say that it's common to make things very good at the start then tone them back if it feels like too much. So I would not be too surprised if Doomreavers went up to at least 10 points, and we shouldn't be too disappointed if that does happen.

Doomies just hit a lot harder than pikemen, LoS's biggest weaknesses are that they all die like chumps and only hit moderately hard; against an actual brick they have trouble. Doom Reavers not so much, they can still charge and kill an ARM23 Sentinel or Immortal (and may kill several of their buddies), and will take huge chunks out of opposing heavies.
9 points is very sharp, and I would not be surprised if it goes up to 10. Then again KE's stayed at 9 :v

If he keeps Guidance, the entire rest of the CID can go hang for all I care.

As long as they don't rouch the Theme, I can't help myself but going "yeah nice, but I only really care about the adjunct".
Really, the only thing i have to criticise on the adjunct is: They promised some kind of spell protection during the keynote reveal and i'm kinda missing this a lot. I would love to have him lose blizzard and get a spell to give sacred ward if b2b with his warcaster or something along these lines. Aside of that he is pretty much perfect in my book.

Not looking forward to seeing Zerk 1 Reaver spam, with freezing mist and her feat she can deliver them pretty reliably

Is it just because the doomy model is cool? Doomies are good against everything. WM = good against heavies Berserk = good against infantry And they don't need buff support aside from delivering, in fact they can't even have buff support.
Aside from some corner cases like high def dodge heavies you can throw doomies at a problem and it will go away. This leads to very stupid games with stupid lists.

I get that they hit hard. But pikes in a charge hit pretty hard and you get higher numbers. How often do they kill each other with berserk

Im also on the adjunct train. This plus S0 puts OW1 into some interesting new territory.
Running behemoth with this kit... Ignores stealth, cloud, cover, concealment, incorporeal, can aim for 16" and threat 12". All the while OW will have 2 free upkeeps and do her thing with full focus.
