Huh. I am interested in this as well, that seems to be a real good bit of information to learn and pass on to the players in my area that use huge based models.

The Thread actually talks about making attacks from the left side onto the target behind the building. which is fine, since LOS is not limited by arcs. If you can draw LOS from the right arc, it does not allow you to attack if the target is completely in the left arc.

You’re over reading it, OP. The L field of fire weapon’s target must be at least partially in the L field of fire.

OK, thanks. I guess that makes sense.

No, you can only attack a model with a weapon that has an arc limitation if part of that model is in said arc. The often confused rule is that if a model is in, say, your right arc, but you can only draw line of sight to that model from your left arc, you can still attack that model with a weapon on your right arc.

To attack with an arc locked weapon the target has to be in that arc. However los can be drawn from either arc.
So it’s the opposite of what you thought.

This is one of those Counter Intuitive rules that "just work" because of RAW (like toeing a Forest from behind while literally having the entire forest in front of the model, and still not getting a Concealment bonus). I think Colossals would have pretty interesting play opportunities if LOS had to be drawn from the same arc you are firing, sadly that is not the case

Here’s the super-concise version:
Lines of Sight is drawn from the model, not from the Field of Fire.
Line of Sight and Field of Fire are not identical.
The target must be in both LOS and the Field of Fire.
Ask “do I have LOS?” and “is the target in my Field of Fire?” as independent questions. If both are “yes”, then you’re all set.

As an aside, I’ve been wondering lately if huge base arcs are that necessary.
I mean, you may have to change the Sweep power attack, but aside from that, would it totally break the game to just get rid of arcs and treat huge-based models the same as any other model? There might be advantages to simplifying these things next time they do an edition change.

You lose 2-3 initials and a focus, so a bought attack, so 3-4 attacks in total, doesn't use weapon qualities like extended melee range and you can't use it on the charge. You need to have at least 4 models in one arc for it to pay off, and again the no weapon quality thing hinders you. As Sweep is now, it's just really bad, yet I don't think it would be ok for Sweep to cover both arcs, but they did release the Supreme Guardian with 3" thresher, so *shrug*. I do actually think that the arcs provide some tactical options and counter play though, and I can see some fluff justification for it. I don't mind if it stays.

Anyone else notice that the L and R are back to front in that diagram?

I've used it a couple of times to clear a zone with my kraken, but that's under skaverous which is really good with it anyway.

There might be advantages to simplifying these things next time they do an edition change. But would it really make sweep over the top if you got rid of the arcs? As another posted said you lose your initial attacks while doing it. Also most colossals are only mat 6 so when being jammed by higher def troopers you maight have to boost as well so your colossal might only make that one attack. It might just add some flare and different gameplay options, it could be to powerful But i am not sure. I do think they need to look at the special power attacks for colossals as they don't seem to be viable options at the moment
