Some of the retired war machine players from my meta plan to pick it up, I expect they will demo it for me. I am skeptical, but willing to be impressed. So, have you played it yet? I have been incredibly busy with my new job. For my main game Hordes, I made it to one tournament since fall and I think the number of games I have played aside from that can be counted on one hand. I generally have not had time to even visit the flgs on game night. On the other hand, I love the job and am more satisfied even with the business and stress than ever before. Some day or evening will get easier and I can hobby again.

So anyway, I’m finally painting my second blister of Strike Fighters and Rocket Chopper.
I got a bit stalled on my buildings a few weeks ago. My attempt to do glossy black windows turned out...poorly. I had to strip it. Power Plant #2 and Corp HQ #2 haven’t been incredibly interesting (I couldn’t think up good paint schemes) so I’ve been dragging my feet.
I got a Terra Khan for Christmas, but he probably won’t be ready until mid to late January, at this rate.
Still having fun, of course. The last two times I played, I was both tired and hungry, and that led to very weird decisions...

I'm really tempted by Terra Khan. I'm looking forwards to seeing your painted up version!

I have some buildings, some commissions, and some other languishing stuff queued up first. Also, I’m trying to find out the studio scheme because I find the studio scheme to be quite attractive. My modified buildings are going to be pretty sweet, though. Wait for it!

So I might have an intro game tomorrow. I've read the online rulebook, now I want to see the cards to figure out if what I like aesthetically is something I would like to play rules-wise. My Google-fu turned up plenty of stuff from the old version and maybe stuff cards from the modern. Can anybody advise me on where to find the cards online?

There are some reddit threads with all the cards. There’s also an army builder online that has the stats, but no specific rules text. I don’t have links for either one, though. What questions do you have? I can try to help!

I will have to try and focus my Google search on Reddit when I get back to a computer.
I like the look of shadow sun, but i am not sure I am really interested in any of the other factions that are out yet. My next two favorites would be Cthul and the Martians, which presents an obvious conundrum. Guard just makes me yawn, and I am skeptical about the dinos, but their rules could win me over. I dislike the aesthetics if the planet eaters.
This is all aesthetic and fluff-based, of course, but as a hobbyist the former definitely matters to me.

I come from Trollbloods for reference, but I think the basic question is "do you think a single faction from an agenda is playable?" My biggest issue is that I don't care for either of the starter factions, and I'm not clear on how I would get all the peripherals without buying in on one of them.

I found the starter boxes to be desirable because they include the map(s), dice, cardboard buildings, and hazard markers. However, as long as one player has a map and hazard markers, it ought to be OK. The paper buildings are really handy, too...
That being said, I've been playing pure GUARD since release and I have found no ill effects. There are a handful of Terrasaur units that interest me (mmm, Spikodon and Explosion on a gun!) but I don't feel like I'm lacking anything right now.
Destroyers seem to want a big mix of units; I can see a good use for (Planet Eater) Explodohawks, (Planet Eater) Destructomites, (Lords of Cthul) Task Masters, and (Martian Menace) Power Pods in just about every list, though again, those probably aren't critical.
As for obtaining all the peripherals: dice can be purchased separately, and all the buildings are available now, with resin Apartment Buildings releasing in...April? So mostly, you'd just have to find a map, which, again, you only need 1 map for every 2 players.

So, looking for opinions on what to get.
I've basically accepted I'm going to need to bite the bullet and get the GUARD starter, despite having low interest in GUARD (as I have no interest in planet eaters, and need one of the starters). However, I am undecided on if I should get Terrasaur, or Martians, as the second faction. Given that, at the moment, nobody in the area plays and so I'll need to be able to play my two factions against each other, which would be a wiser purchase, Terrasaur or Martian?

Do you like giant dinosaurs or flying saucers better? Alternatively: the Martians seem to play a more manipulative game, while Terra Khan just smashes face. Terrasaurs seem to be able to play straight single faction better, while I think Martians benefit from various units in Planet Eaters and Lords of Cthul. (Chompers, Destructomites, Explodohawks, Task Master)

whelp, I just ordered myself the starter box for GUARD, the Ares Mothership, and the Saucers/Pods/Hunter blister (the Vanguard/Hunter blister is out of stock).
While I think, based upon the description, I'd probably be more comfortable with Terrasaurs, I figure I'm going to prefer painting Martians (as I'm currently painting Grymkin, and don't really want to paint more flesh at the moment). And painted models always attract more attention/interest than unpainted models.

The game doesn't start playing functionally until at least 1 monster and 15 units per side.

I got my demo game in finally. I even ended up playing planet eaters, which I disliked the pictures of enough that I had written them off as a possible faction, but my friends paint job my big G not look so hideous to me that I decided after reading the cards that I would play him. After going hyper I ended the game by throwing Defender X into a building and the central volcano, overkilling him by at least two points.
I am not sure about the value of units, but we only played ten and I managed to only activate them twice all game, I think, so I am withholding judgement there.
The game is so much quicker than warmahordes, I see why people live it. I may well end up buying in, possibly with the planet eater starter, which was literally the last thing I was willing to buy before I laid eyes on the models and their cards.
