I am having a difficult time playing 1 vs. 1 Defender X versus Cthugrosh. He seems to be able to keep far ahead on health with his ability to heal via popping Meat Slaves. Spitters really outshine G-tanks on offense and are almost comparable on defense.
I seem to be able to only secure two buildings at a time, making it really hard to get the various bonuses GUARD seems to need to be on par with other units. Hmm...

Having only one "main" model on each side feels like a hard thing to balance. How would Guard's other giant robo (I forget his name) fare? Is there going to be a CID for Monsterpocalypse?

League games are one monster, tournaments are two.
Sky Sentinel seems like he might be more effective, but he won't be available until January. Plus, I haven't seen Cthugrosh's card, so I'm not sure if he has flight.

Cthugrosh has High Mobility. His ability to sacrifice models (specifically, Meat Slaves) to heal is a pain in the butt.

Healing was always a difficult challenge in Monpoc 1.0. The best thing I can recommend (haven't played the matchup in 2.0) is to try to prep for two consecutive monster activations, set up for multiple attacks that send him through buildings (and hey, maybe killing some Meat Slaves in the process). You break a form, then fade back and rebuild your P-Die pool, preparing for the end game.

Do any of the buildings allow Cthugrosh to heal himself out of hyper form? Cause that's gross if it's a thing.

Do any of the buildings allow Cthugrosh to heal himself out of hyper form? Cause that's gross if it's a thing. Downtown High Rise would allow him to do that. He can theoretically Brawl a High Rise and Action Sacrifice a Meat Slave and heal two per turn. Haven’t seen it happen yet, but I know I saw a Cthugrosh vs. Cthugrosh game last weekend that seemingly ended with the more-experienced Cthugrosh player healed like 7-8 HP more than his opponent by the end of the game. I couldn’t really watch that game to see exactly what happened, but one guy definitely had several High Rises on the table...

Anyway, I think the answer is: tune my unit selection, add a couple more buildings, and play smarter and more aggressively with my units. We’ll see how it turns out!

I know, I know. I was mostly joking. The game is a ton of fun; I just don’t know what to talk about. I honestly am sort of avoiding strategy discussions on purpose because I find it’s more fun to experience new situations first-hand. The Cthugrosh healing thing stumped me a bit, which is why I brought that up. After reflection, I think the problem had to do with Isle of Annihilation having few opportunities for huge damage swings, and with the fact that GUARD really seems to want to secure a bunch of buildings. I only had one or two buildings at the time. So...uh...stuff?

Some of the retired war machine players from my meta plan to pick it up, I expect they will demo it for me. I am skeptical, but willing to be impressed. So, have you played it yet?

So anyway, here’s an amusing anecdote from last weekend’s tournament.
We had less-than-optimal turnout, probably due in general to a combination of weather and holiday stuff, and in specific, some personal things for a few players. We had 4 people turn out: 2 Gorghadra and 2 Defender X.
Round 1, the random pairing (not like there were a lot of combinations!) saw Gorghadra vs. Gorghadra and Defender X vs. Defender X.
The Gorghadra players run right at each other and just start slugging it out. The city is half empty and on fire. Suddenly they are both down to like four health each and both Gorghadras go “Uh, oh crap, I am almost dead, better get smart real quick...”
Meanwhile, neither Defender X has suffered any damage at all. One has destroyed 3 buildings on his side of the map to make a little bunker and is turtling in the back, but otherwise you wouldn’t be able to guess that the game was about 45 minutes in.
So...weird, but true!
