As far as I was aware L5R was potentially getting a new RPG but I was not sure if that was confirmed. They do however have quite a few older versions of the role playing game. Who knows FF might license PP to make a minis game based on L5R...

L5R has an RPG coming out at GenCon (and has several great versions of the RPG in the past- seriously, some GREAT versions).
There was also a minis game for L5R back in the day, called Clan Wars. Pretty cool game, if you ever get a chance to try it.
FFG has an interest in minis games, in general (the various Star Wars games, Rune Wars, etc). Maybe they are considering an L5R minis game, with PP as the producer of the minis?

Here is the actual product: www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2018/4/30/legend-of-the-five-rings-beginner-game/It is not the same system, but it does have similarities, I believe. I honestly haven't been following the RPG news too closely, but it looks like they tried to keep the Roll and Keep system that L5R RPGs of the past have done, but also use special FFG dice, which seems to be a hallmark of their games nowadays.

Why are they making a minicrate model for a game they don't even support?

Why are they making a minicrate model for a game they don't even support? That makes me think they are doing more with it and this is a tease into more. If its just single models for loot crate then WTF!

Based on the article, it isn't a single model- it's a new line of models for a new mini-crate. When you get a VIP subscription, you'll get the Dragon clan samurai + a Naga Hunter, then get a new L5R model each month. So you'll have two mini-crate lines going simultaneously!

Why are they making a minicrate model for a game they don't even support? this. like, if it was along side another announcement that the minis game is coming back, sure. but then why not just hold this mini till the game is actually released?? what good is it doing just printing a mini for a game that doesnt exist. so they sell 1500 of them. game comes out. ppl QQ that said mini isnt made any more and molds are destroyed so you couldnt if you wanted to. so why not hold it till the game is, then provide this as a, hey heres a thing to get while you wait for said game. super dumb

The announcement said the first minis will be released beginning of 2019.
Maybe they know about an upcoming FFG announcement about a new game? This way, people interested have quite a few months to decide whether to get in on this.

I know a few people who would be interested in an L5R miniature game. I was rather disappointed when I found out that there really wasn't one.
The more important aspect of the announcement is the collaboration with FFG more then anything else. We know FFG does miniatures (and most of them do look pretty good), making an L5R miniature isn't as interesting as getting Privateer Press to make THEIR miniatures.
I hope it goes well.

Specifically: "Preorders begin this October, and the Togashi Yokuni miniature will be shipped in January 2019."

But we didn't sign up for L5R, We were promised Warmahordes mini's. Open a separate subscription for L5R, dont try to piggyback off of people that signed up for Warmachine. Granted we are all just speculating here. It just doesn't feel right to lump these in with the normal minicrate sub, Especially if it takes place over Warmahordes models at certain times.

? From the announcement: "In collaboration with Fantasy Flight Games, Privateer Press, publishers of WARMACHINE and HORDES, has announced the launch of its second subscription box line—Legend of the Five Rings—under the MiniCrate banner, a service that delivers exclusive limited-edition miniatures directly to players and hobbyists every month. Based on the Legend of the Five Rings property and the recent hit Living Card Game® from Fantasy Flight Games, the new MiniCrate subscription series will feature a range of characters from all of Rokugan’s clans." This isn't piggybacked. If you have a MiniCrate subscription, you'll get Warmachine minis. If you're interested in L5R, you get L5R minis. If you want both, you can subscribe to both. If I'm not misreading this (the announcement is here: privateerpress.com/press-releases/privateer-press-announces-legend-of-the-five-rings-for-minicrate-line), I don't think anyone has anything to worry about.
