Anyone who played Khador in Mk2 will have fond memories of the Drakhun. I tried including them earlier in Mk3 and came to the conclusion that they are simply over costed.
But is there a legitimate place for them in Armoured Corp? If so, where is that place?
Consider that a min Demo unit is 1 point cheaper and (assuming you can deliver them) will do more damage. With Desperate Pace the Drakhun only exceeds their threat by 1".

I think it does with a jack heavy sorscha3 list. It might do work in a wonky vlad3 Cav heavy list too. I mean its big and its tough but yeah, 9 points is a lot.

I'v been looking at S3 a lot, but I just can't help feeling that two min units of demo corp would work better and save 2 points...

In the Armored Corps I think their main function is in riding down skirmishers (Rangers, Croe's and the like) but especially take or contest objectives on the flanks. Its SPD 7 is one of the few ways you can actually get places really fast (especially combined with Advance Move) and it's not expensive to the point where you're harming yourself by parking it off to the side (Chariots are too expensive for that imo). |

SPD 7 is only really relevant if you're RUNNING. Because with Desperate Pace your MoWs are MV 6" when needed. I'm going to try running with 2 under S3, but I'm still thinking min Demos will end up being better  |

I think they should be brought down in cost. 18 points for 2 horsies vs. 20 points for 5 Storm Lances? Something is definitely amiss there.

Drakhuns are good. Like most cavalry solos they're a bit overpriced. If you have the points they're nice when included, but AC lists are too strapped for points for that too be good enough.

Drakhuns are also 3" faster on the Advance Move and can actually (counter)charge without dropping its defenses. You also wouldn't send a unit for a flanking maneuver, or would you? Let me put it this way. Full MoW Shocks are 16 Pts. 16 / 5 = 3.2 Pts per model (10 / 3 or 20 / 6 = 3.33 for min. unit or with CA). Do you think the Drakhun is worth less than 3 Shocktroopers? I don't think there's a clear answer, I think they're close and it depends on what you need. The cost is fair, the question for me is if the Drakhun has a niche and I've already argued that I think it does. If you're choosing between a Drakhun or a unit of Demo Corps with S3 I'd go max size + Dragos every time, I don't see the point in a second minimum unit. If you do end up running two I'd love to read about your experience some time. |

Pre-chariots Drakhun and Devastator are the only options to meaningfully contest something far. Post-chariots Drakhun has no reason to leave the shelf.

Vlad2 turns them into nightmares for a turn. Strakhov2 does the same to a lesser extent.

If you're not bringing Eliminators or the Chariots, then yes you will need them to have something to throw out and contest on the really live scenarios.
As for warcasters that would actively want them: Vlad2, Vlad3, Strakhov2, and Sorscha3 are a couple that come to mind. Drakhuns are at their best when you have blanket effects that cover your whole army. Drakhuns really aren't worth it when you have to pull off a good upkeep off Shocktroopers or Demo Corps to make them sing.

They are cheaper, can hit just as hard, and almost as reliable durability wise. |

I tried them a few times under S3. I found that since she sorta wants to be in a brick ANYWAY and that SP 4+2 jacks just are not THAT quick their value in respect to triggering flank was a "nice to have" but not critical as I could almost always get a shock trooper there as well.
Their value in the Vlad2 army up is, I think, not clear to me. They are SLIGHLY better than democorp against shooting - but between band of brothers and vengeance, you are getting base the same threat range. Add in the strong synergy between arcane might and Shatter they start to get strictly more powerful.
I wish they had a more focused Khador player in PP land (maybe THAT is the problem) because it would have been great to CID them during AK and have them look at some interesting rules (for example having them synergize with the other AK rather than be a stand alone piece).

-1 PC would have been enough for the Drakhun. I have had many lists with 8 pts left over that I would have gladly slotted in a Drakhun.
Demo Corps are strong Vlad2 targets, and overtake the Drakhun in damage if you can get Freeze to trigger, but the Drakhun is much more durable than one Demo Corps model. The Demo Corps will very likely be minifeating just to survive the advance. You're also not forced to make the decision between Demo Corps and Drakhuns in list building. You would want to make sure you have plenty of good feat targets as most players will usually focus on your most threatening feat targets early, so there's nothing wrong with having some strong backups.
