So I like Malakov2 quite a bit with Man-o-War, but about an hour ago something occurred to me.
His feat Poison Pill reads the following: When a friendly, non-battle engine Faction model suffers damage from an enemy attack while in Malakov’s CTRL range at any time except while it is advancing, after the attack is resolved the damaged model can immediately make a full advance. Additionally, while in Malakov’s control range, friendly Faction models gain Parry and cannot become knocked down. Poison Pill lasts for one round.
In the Prime rulebook (p. 17, Advantages), Tough reads as follows: When this model is disabled, roll a d6. On a 5 or 6, remove 1 damage point from this model; it is no longer disabled and becomes knocked down. While knocked down this model loses Tough.
I can't believe I never thought about this before, but doesn't that mean that single-Health friendly Faction models with Tough can benefit from Poison Pill, provided they pass their Tough roll?
1. Friendly Faction model with 1 (remaining) Health & Tough takes damage, reducing its Health to 0.
2. Tough activates, the player passes the Tough check and the model recovers its 1 Health.
3. Because of Poison Pill, the model does not become knocked down.
4. Because of Poison Pill, the previously damaged model can immediately make a full advance, benefiting from Parry as normal.
5. If damaged again, repeat the same process.
Does it work like that? Am I the only one who didn't think of this before? Would this change the way you perceive Malakov at all? Banking on Tough is never a good idea but I can imagine this being a nice augmentation for Doom Reavers, WG with Strength of the Forefathers and even weakened MoW under Heroic Call and solos with native Tough.
