I've played in a decent amount of tournaments now, and I really want to nail down a good pair. I have yet to feel like I've created a pair that truly compliments each other, one to ask a question and one to answer ehat that list cannot.
Reviewing the lists I create I realize they can be broken down into 4 ideas. This list brings lots of infantry, this list bring lots of armor, this list cracks armor, this list eats infantry. I have then tried to sprinkle magic weapons and stealth/cloud removal on top.
For example, my most recent tournament pairing was B3 in WG with A+H and Irusk1 in LEGOS. Side note, I fought the slayer spam boogie man for the first time with LEGOS and boy slayer spam did not live up to the fear. But, i felt like both my lists were answers, and neither really asked a hard question.
What questions does Khador have access to? Can you handle the armor i have, can you kill 40 tough winterguard? As well, i feel like we have a tough time answering common questions,clouds/stealth/incorporeal. I found out the hard way that my LEGOS list could not handle king of nothing in dark menagerie.
Share some lists and ideas! I know AK is coming out soon, and I plan on running this with irusk1, irusk2, or maybe strakhov2. This list will definitely ask can you chew through my boxes/armor.

Well, the first thing to do is identify which casters you are interested in playing. Then you can narrow it down further to which pairs of those casters don't have a lot of overlap, ask different questions or answer different problems. THEN you can start to look at what lists the bring with them! Also, Khador really only asks the question of: Can you deal with this many boxes/models with this much armour? We aren't really an asking questions at list selection faction. Though there are bad lists to drop into us. Like Gaspy3 Slayers should struggle into most Khador lists. You also don't really need to have an answer for everything. Cloud walls are annoying and the first few times you come up against them you probably get smashed. But you can play around them without having a direct counter. The same is true for magical weapons for the most part.

I mean we have 21 warcasters. Whichs means that we have about 420 pairings to choose from.
Hopefully that narrows it down for you!

I suspect that Armoured Corps is going to be a very, very common sight in pairings because it's the only theme where you can field both strong melee and strong shooting units. When you also take into account the fact that the theme benefits help a bit to cover its lack of speed for scenario contesting/scoring, I think it's going to prove to be a decent option. Anyone that can provide an armour boost, mobility boost and/or damage boost should play well with them. Anyone that can help mitigate the low attack volume would also help.
Then I guess people will pick whatever theme covers the weakness of their AC list.

That is how I have been feeling, box spam and armor seem to be the only thing we can ask at list selection. I wanted to see what else we could bring to the table, vlad rocket spam seems to be it's own question as well. I mean we have 21 warcasters. Whichs means that we have about 420 pairings to choose from. Hopefully that narrows it down for you! And we have 5 themes, so some 2000 paring options! But this doesn't help much as not all options work, i would say most of them. So the discussion is what good options does khador have and what has the community been having success with as a Question/answer pairing. I suspect that Armoured Corps is going to be a very, very common sight in pairings because it's the only theme where you can field both strong melee and strong shooting units. Then I guess people will pick whatever theme covers the weakness of their AC list. Armored corps will definitely be a new leg for us to stand on. It will be an interesting mix of armor/boxes and is pretty flexible as to what it can handle from stealth to incorporeal. My pairing for once AC is releasdled is looking like WGK spam with either vlad/butcher/ow.

My idea of pairing currently is Melee list: Wolves (V2), AK (V2), LegoS (I2,S2), Jaws/WGK jacks (Karchev) Shooty list: WGK (V1, B3), AK (V1, V2) Magical weapons are handled by A&H in shooty, Wolves or Jaws Karchev(in theory, haven't tried yet, Karchev on backburner until S0 anyway). After that I pick what I feel particularly liking at the moment and roll with it. Melee is safe drop when you outthreat opponent or they don't bring dedicated arm cracking if you go the jack way(8x34 boxes under Karchev still aren't free to beat), otherwise it's shooty. Sometimes you see that you need specific tech like rfp and then you just drop list with it (example rfp - B3, clouds - V2 or V1 with Spriggan).
Box spam by itself isn't good anymore. Every other meta battlegroup list beats it because of better theme/fury mechanic/synergy. I think Khador's future is playing long threats. Jacks charging 12", mows charging 14" and massed long range shooting.

I'm not a fan of trying to skew to ask big question list. I do like having answers though. I'm ok with that since I don't think khador asks very good questions right now. Want to go boxspam, well it's just going to be a lesser version of Gaspy3 Slayerspam. Want to go with a gunline, well cygnar does it better than we do. Want to go with a ton of dudes, well Slaughter fleet or Satixis does it better than we do. We can have option to pretty much everything in the game though, I like that. I think to really answer all the field we need a 3 list format, but armored corps might change that. For my next big tournament I'm going with B3 WGK and OW2 WGK, both list run very differently so I'm not too worried by having a double WGK pairing.
