I often don't listen to pod-casts. They tend to digress into 15 minute riffs about inside jokes and yucking it up with subpar production values.
But this one
museonminis.com/tactical-tips-episode-9-armored-corps/
is actually quite good.
It offers a really interesting observation about Khador as a "bi-modal" faction - easy to learn; hard to do well with "middle skills" and highly rewarding at the very tip top of the game.
I think there is a lot of truth to this. Unlike a Lot of factions we do NOT have easy buttons and we HAVE to understand what their armies do.
Drop into Vyros2 with Helios and don't understand the interaction? Well time to die when he pulls you into a light on the synergy chain.
Don't really get the interactions with Double Derps and Zeresh? Well let me explain it to you while you see your jacks knocked down.
Haven't played Haley3? Well aren't YOU in for a treat.
And my classic - I bet you didn't know Denny 2 could make your model go there and have Nightmare eat it ;-)
Now of course, those tricks against us are not unique. But other factions have "answers". Unsure about what an army does? Drop Denny1. With Stealth, debuffs and the feat you are OK most of the time. Never seen something? Well drop Haley2 and simply feat on the biggest models. 9 times out of 10 the best choice. Confused? Well shit, Surround Madrak with a bunch of dudes and run at them. Works 90% of the time.
So their conclusion is that Khador has to both know the other guys army (I find this VERY true) _AND_ understand how that impacts the piece trade and positioning game. We are not going to generally "trick" people. We have to use the board, terrain, and our innate good stats to our advantages.
I found this smart. And their discussions bear that out. So, for example, in their discussion about Strak2 they make a great point which rings true - stacking armor to 26 is a trap. What they don't point out is that what you have to be able to do is to understand when ARM 20/22 8 boxes will save you and when it won't. So, for example, if you don't really understand Seige 2 and how it works you might say "Well shit, I am 13 inches away and how hard can trenchers hit ANYWAY since I am ARM 20?" Then you watch those Man of Wars melt.
So for those that listened what did you think? Agree? Disagree? Phrase or Frame differently?
