Battle mages are a straight up combat unit. 2 attacks, a very good ranged spell... They are now much harder to kill in melee and can get their ranged protection from other sources.
It's a good change imo.

It's a good change imo. Maybe it's just me but I have never really seen them used in combat, they usually just push stuff around the open up lanes and push stuff in/out of threat ranges.
I can see how Set Defense might encourage more melee play from them, but they will need the survivability at range to make it to melee, and now they have to get it from a 5 point solo, seems kinda sad

MHSF is DEF25 with similar buffs. kinda missing my point, yes you can make a unit effectively immune to ranged attacks, however that sort of thing already exists in this game, and it does not appear to be breaking anything, I can't see how playing out of theme to achieve something that already exists (and is not game breaking) is worth it.

The artificer will be added to legions... Not thrilled about an a unit with 2 internal arm buffs, force barrier, vengeance and pow 12 WM... But we'll see how it shapes up.
The themes are very limited ATM.

Too bad the Artificer cannot be taken in Shadows where Force Barrier would be really useful... I would prefer it in Defenders myself....

The themes are very limited ATM. The blast immunity is kinda moot as they have high armour anyway, def 12 to 14 is good, but at the moment the artificer cannot be taken for free (not a small base) and does not count towards free points. And even if they do change the theme so medium bases can be taken for free, there is still an opportunity cost there

I'm excited for 4-marshal jack lists. Either a mix of Griffons, Sirens, and Harpies or maybe throw a Sphinx in there. With the Artificer it may even be worth considering the Hydra since Flank can make up for their mediocre hitting power.
