counterblast: Oh crap! Did Lylyth 1 just add another fury to my charging beast? I'd rather the Stinger had Bushwhack back - I really miss that tech with Lylyth (especially Lylyth1) and Vayl.

I had a janky Lylyth2 list with Teraphs + Stingers (providing bushwhack) that was fun. Move into position, feat, fire - Next round, cast bushwhack, fire, pull back and counterblast. Mind you, it was just for fun.
But yes, this edition really curbing animi to self (with key exceptions) did a number on beasts/casters. I was one of those that believe that loosing Tenacity was just going to see that stat line increase as a default. I don't think we will ever see that though due to things like OoA theme. I guess the question is... do we still need it? IDK.
A little more on topic - if the idea was to curb so many spells that warlock gets by forcing all but key animi as 'self'... I would have really hoped that those animi would be more valuable in some form? Either for the beast or for the warlock. Granted - nothing should be perfect (as much as I would love for Neph Solider and Raek to do an animus swap).

What if they made each animi also into a special rule that was always on unless it's spirit (or mind) was crippled.

Each beast using its animus for free used to be part of Bethaynes feat - it was pretty good. We might get something like it back again one day. I don't think we'll get always on Spiny Growth. Always on Repulse wouldn't make sense. Might get another support solo that lets them use their animus for free. Which would be kind of cool.

What if they made each animi also into a special rule that was always on unless it's spirit (or mind) was crippled. I like what you are slinging - though as DanX said, some cases just don't make sense. But I've thought of "if a warbeast could cast their animi once without fury cost if spirit was active" or something like that.
That would be a blanket rule and I don't know what the power balance of that would be (nor do I think PP would get behind that change).
DanX - a solo that would do that would be so useful! Like how the old Succubus functioned (not saying that the MK3 version is not great, I use her often).

I think rather than warbeasts getting their animi for free warjacks should have to start paying focus for their animus-like abilities and not be allowed to do them while running.

Yeah I'm not saying my idea is perfect, but it's an interesting thing to consider.
I mean, who is ever paying two for Counterblast on our rat 4/5, fury 2/3 beasts? If they just had counterblast built in, how does that change those beasts? Does it make the four point stinger too good? The ten point Teraph?
Another idea I had floating around was giving Warjacks a focus stat like Warbeasts have. What happens to the cheap Khador jacks if they can only have one focus? Does that allow them to go back to super cheap mad dogs.
Anyway, ultimately we do have some disappointing animi, and I would like to see the points we pay for access to them be worthwhile.
