So, while the origin of this complaint may vary (read: piece complaints and likes/dislikes), I've noticed something of a pattern within the community here at Lormahordes. From what I can tell, Legion as a faction doesn't seem to play the way most people in the faction WANT it to play. I know I feel that way. So, I'm curious. What were you looking for when you joined the Legion of Everblight, and do you feel it met your expectations? Did it completely fail them? Or did it kinda meet you half-way?

So I haven't played Legion, but I've recommended it to my girlfriend and its always had a large appeal to me for one reason: its weird. Legion to me always feels like its had more uniqueness than other factions. Nobody else really has something analogous to Bethayne+Belphagor, the only 'caster like Saeryn & Rhyas is Haley3 and she functions entirely differently, Thagrosh2 is basically his own beast. You've got weird dragon centaur ogres, a stable of the most interesting (though not necessarily always good) character beasts in the game, and a ton of tentacles.
Legion always feels (for better or worse) that its playing an entirely different game from everyone else and design wise no other faction has really managed anything quite as interesting as their beast and warlock stable from a design standpoint except for maybe Grymkin, who has a quarter of the beast options. My only real gripe that kept me from buying into the faction was that I found/still find their unit options- aside from the upcoming Chosen- to be boring. Maybe I'm spoiled by Cygnars infantry but all the Legion unit options feel like the most basic, bland units in their role this side of Khador, and I didn't want a faction where I would almost definitely play beast heavy nigh exclusively.

I started in mkii. I loved the aesthetics and wanted to play with a bunch of dragon monsters and mutated elves. After looking into the faction, I liked how self-sufficient the infantry was, allowing the casters and solos to focus on supporting the beasts. I also loved the idea of the lessers scurrying around the army handing out animi and being spawned mid-combat via handy corpse-cauldrons. Also Bethayne. Such a cool, unique design.
At the time, definitely met my expectations. Now, not so much. The units are overall pretty bad, lessers basically don’t have a role, and I can barely express how much I dislike mkiii Bethayne.

I joined Legion for the aesthetic of the warbeasts. I have always loved the Carnivean.

I loved the look of the warbeasts, in Particular the Angelius. If it weren't for that I might not have even started WM/H.
Seriously, it's a flying snake-shark. There is no part of that description that isn't pure awesome.

I joined Legion for the aesthetic of the warbeasts. I have always loved the Carnivean. Do you feel the warbeast play in Legion is how you want it? Or is it lacking? I've always had a special place in my heart for subpar models. My main list is mostly Ogrun, Rhyas, and the Blightbringer, out of theme, and has been since MkII. The Carnivean is definitely not where I want it to be. Sure, it's still one of the most lethal non-characters in the game, but that speed debuff took out a lot of versatility. Now, it is distinctly stuck as a second-wave murder machine, whereas before, it could get first strikes in. Edit: Some of Legion's beasts I am happy with. The Raek, Seraph, Angelius, Ravagore, Typhon, Naga, Bolt Thrower, Protector, and Azrael all seem good. The rest make me feel like I am playing on hard mode, which I do because I'm awesome. I am happy about the direction the Primal Terrors CID was taking things. I am hoping we get a Children Of The Dragon CID next.

Dragons, ninjas, and lots of beasts who will kill you without seeing. This is why I play legion. I also really like the ogrun, this Cid has me excited.

What first drew me to the army were the aesthetics. What kept me there was the "glass cannon" aspect. You let us get there first, if you pay extra for frills that we ignore, we will punish you for it. But if you can dodge or blunt our charge we will crumble. This is what interested me in Legion when I started in Mk2.

Claw, claw, bite, breath weapon on the Carnivean won me over.

Back when it was the battlebox that won me over to khador, and later legion when hordes released. It was purely an esthetics thing. Then I didn't play the game for 10 years and got lured back in during the last year of mk2. The toolkit animi provided made me choose legion over khador, and I love how you had to look for synergies while listbuilding more then in khador.
Those main attractions are kinda gone now. Not too many interesting animi to build lists around, and things that synergise well often don't share a theme. It's mostly about the esthetics for me these days and 10 years later I look for other things and was lured into kriel company and grymkin. Love the nephalim too esthetically.

When I first got into Warmachine I bought the 2 player box that came with both circle and legion. And initially tried circle as I loved the look of the druids and the wolves, but want having any fun with Kaya 1 and was also under the assumption, thanks to my local gameshop owner, that legion was an army that didn't have any strategy and pretty much played itself. Though after trying lyl1 I was hooked.

For me it was the dragonspawn, and to get specific the nephilim, and for the exact model, Zuriel.
Gotta love that half-elf ninja dragon.

My motivations were like many (although delayed from the time a lot of people moved to Warmahordes): Games Workshop had let me down. I'd used to play Wood Elves and Tyranids, so obviously the factions of elves and tyranid-looking dragon monsters was very appealing, more so as an elite faction based on movement, positioning and dirty tricks. As for how this meets my expectations: I recently played Wood Elves in Warhammer Fantasy. I have no expectations. We're getting new models and new rules soon. That is novel for me

... positioning and dirty tricks... This is my preferred playstyle as well. I gotta say that in MKII I found Legion did not live up to this promise, and never hit the mark for me. My second faction (Cryx) suited my playstyle much better than Legion ever did. The revival of the Seraph by making it into a more complete toolbox actually has made Legion more appealing to me now than it was in MKII. -und_ed
