Guess I missed that in the theme description! They are absolutely worth a shot in the list then. That opens up the list to take on more hordes list instead of excluding it to mainly wanting to drop against wm lists. Also hunter+spell piercer is a combination that will make a lot of models scared. Guess I need to go re-read everything Ret related again. XD Edit: Did some list-crafting and I've got a set up I might try. Full nyss hunters, min infiltrators (most likely ambushing) and Spears w/ 2 souless escorts is exactly 40 points.
I'm not entirely sure about min Infiltrators, since they have changed purpose and are now there for a bit of heavy lifting, so I'm inclined to take a max unit, even though it does mess with the numbers a bit... Pre-CID, one list I had under Issyria was max MHSF + CA, max MHI + Eiryss + SE, max Nyss Hunters + SE for 60pts of units on the nose, Narn and double Assassins for free... can't doo dat no mor...! I want a min unit somewhere for the Spears (purely for fluffiness), but not entirely sure... :/

I go back and forth with min or max infiltrators, will probably test both schemes. I was planning on having them ambush in, so no CA for them.

Yeah, definitely no CA for them now, hence it screwing with the numbers, which, luckily, is only of mild irritation. It still makes a solid list, but I'm definitely contemplating the Nyss Hunters in a full across the board mixed list... Herein lies the highest concentration of ball-bustingly infuriating models to assemble!! =P

I tossed on a SE onto the hunters and spears for giggles. So 45 points for a free Eiryss2 and Narn. Could be fun. Only issue with the infiltrators in keeping them in gang during the feat sidesteps. Just have to be careful of how they get shifted around. Hex hunters, Nyss hunters, blighblades/striders, Satyxis, MHSF are all models I own. I've become pretty decent at assembly parts with small joints. XD

Great to daisy chain a series of PS 14 CS's with single side-steps. No MHI? They were a pain to build, too. I'm guessing you mean the old metal Satyxis 'cos I have the new resin/metal ones and they were great.

Haven't picked up a unit of MHI yet, they came out when I had stopped buying stuff for ret. And yeah they were the old metal satyxis models. The dumb whips kept breaking.

What are the opinions of taking Sylys with Thyron? He benefits from the free upkeep and having a solo to cap flags and contest, but other than that he doesn't do much.
I've been strongly considering removing sylys and adding in Elara and putting Moros under her. This would reduce the focus strain on Thyron (even though there really isn't one with 3 arcanists in the list) as well as having a super mobile tag-team running around the board. With apparition she has a 11.5" threat range, she can have storm rager tossed onto her to help her survivability and with speed of death both her and Moros can bounce in and out of combat.
This would leave Thyron and his pair of banshees to stomp up the field with two arcanists in tow.
Option 2: Is to keep Sylys, drop Eiryss2 and use the free slot for Elara. Not sure I'm a fan of this since Eiryss2 does a lot more work than Sylys does.

with mage hunters, sylys is imo pretty unnecessary with thyron. all the mage hunter infantry has pathfinder, so onslaught isn't really needed as you're not running a big battlegroup in SotR generally due to so many points spent on infantry. storm rager you might throw on a narn or eiryss or MHA, but they all have stealth so you're probably not that worried about CRAs, and if you're getting into a position where they are getting CMAs against them they're probably dead anyways without the negation of CMAs, plus the ARM bonus isn't really helpful on ARM 11-13 generally speaking. assail's nice to help a vyre jack keep up with the fast mage hunter infantry, but overall that's 1 super-useful upkeep out of his whole list on a small battlegroup theme, which to me doesn't really necessitate the usage of sylys.
now if we start talking a DoI list, this changes. storm rager is really nice on skeryth and makes the pain knight even scarier, onslaught will be really helpful for your non-pathfinder infantry, and assail on a vyre heavy following behind some of your once again faster infantry will be useful considering you'll likely have a smaller battlegroup again. that's half his focus consumed instead of just 1 focus for the assail in SotR as discussed above, and if you're spending another 2 for spellpiercer for blessed AFG shots, getting to camp 2 or pass out 2 instead of camping/giving out only 1 focus a turn can be a big deal.
outside of that DoI situation though, I'm taking the fane knight guardian now that post-CID the FKG is available in every theme instead of just in DoI. thyron's a guy who wants to be up in the mix in my mind, having def 17 in melee with parry, no back strikes, and then storm rager on himself makes him pretty nasty to deal with. having an ARM 20 shield guard friend who can't get knocked down nearby is good too. currently my favorite way to play thyron is in FoW with the FKG, moving him across the table surrounded by shield guarded jacks, popping his feat and charging everything in and saying "come deal with raid boss thyron." he ends up on a def/arm combined of 35 with 18 boxes while the FKG is near him. in comparison, another brawler caster like butcher 3 is only at a combined def/arm of 32 with 20 boxes. thyron's not quite butcher nasty, but he's plenty brutal when buffed up, and delivering him behind a wall of shield guards is plenty fun if nothing else.

Care to share a FoW list that you like using with Thyron? I've dojo-ed a couple but I'm not sure I'm set on any.

I don't really have a set in stone list for it since I mostly just play it for a casual laugh from time to time. I tend to experiment with different jacks, amounts of battle mages, which friendly merc solo/unit I take (if any), etc because it's mostly being done as a "let's see if I can get Thyron across the table to do a caster v caster assassination," not as something that I run completely seriously.
typically I end up playing something like the following:
Thyron, FoW -FKG (free) -various jacks of choice (I tend to guarantee 1 hydra and 1 manticore and then just fill up on whatever else I feel like playing) 3x arcanists (1x free) Eiryss1 (free) 2x battle mages with soulless to fill out points
but there's a lot you can play with in there to get the same effect out of the list, which is basically just to surround Thyron with shield guards, get him across the table putting storm rager on himself at the end, and go see if you can blow up the opposing caster with Thyron.

My problem with FKG is that he is way worse than Madelyn. Sure, FKG is objectively better against melee warjacks and warbeasts. The problem with FKG is that he is not that difficult to kill in range or in melee.

I've probably questioned you on how to use Madelyn with Thyron before, but what's the rationale, ability use and placement methodology here?

My problem with Madelyn is that she costs points. And FKG can be free, offer protective value, and leave said points open for something else. Like a Scyir for tactician.
