Hello heretic swans!
I have a large Menoth army and recently had a local player giving up the game and so I purchased a small mk2 style 2 list pairing off of him. Being that I am new to the Swans but not the game (and it's tax season) I was curious what my first purchases should be to have a competitive mk3 list pairing. I have the following:
Haley2 Stormwall
Magnetized ironclad Character-clad Hunter Thorn Junior Squire Female journeyman Jakes 1 Gunmages & UA Rangers ECaine Trenchers(the regular trenchers) min & UA
Where do I go from here?

You might be able to run a Haley2 sons of the Tempest style list pretty easily. Here's one I whipped one in War Room but it forgoes the Journeyman which makes me nervous.
Haley2 -Squire -Stormwall -Thorn Rifleman X2 Gun Mage Captain Adept Lt. Bastian Falk Ragman Cpt. Arlan Strangeways ATGMP -CA Black 13th Strike Force

Oh I'm not just looking to play with what I have. I'm curious about what I should be buying to have some competitive lists. Also if there are any auto includes, or models I definitely need (like Choir of Menoth) that would be good to know as well.
I was thinking Stryker2 Storm Div/ Haley3(or Siege2 first really) Gravediggers(or whatever it is called) would be a strong pairing to learn to start. I've played a TON of Protectorate but we have no Cygnar in our local meta. I want to fix that.

Storm Division required models: 2x Storm Strider (can get away with 1 in most lists, but 2 is just so much fun) Rhupert Carvolo (merc solo) Major Katherine Laddermore Squire Arlan Strangewayes 2x Storm Lances 1x to 2x Stormblade Infantry 1x to 2x Stormclad 1x to 5x Firefly 1x Stormblade captain (but not really required)
Gravediggers required models: Finn Anson Hitch 2x Trench Buster (always, always, always 2x) 2x Express Team 1x to 2x Trencher Infantry 1x Trencher Commandos 1x Trencher Long Gunners 2x to 3x Grenadier
Heavy Metal has loads and loads of options. As long as you have 2x of each heavy and 2-3x of each light, you can do almost any decent build. One of each Colossal also helps and is lots of fun.

I've seen some storm division lists running no storm striders under Stryker2. Is there a reason for that? Or was that just a "I don't have the model but this list is still good" type of thing?

Stryker2 doesn't really do anything for the Striders, but does a lot for melee troops/cav and his feat benefits from numerous, hard hitting dudes. That is more caster specific that anything, but as always, play what you enjoy. It is you money and time.

So it is a caster specific thing. Gotcha. If I were going nemo3 I'd def buy 2 striders....but their model is UUUUUGLY.

It is more that it looks like a stiff breeze could blow its spider-esque self over. The dudes on top are just asking to be target practice as well.

That is more caster specific that anything, but as always, play what you enjoy. It is you money and time. That being said, while some casters put the Stormstrider into overdrive (Nemo3, any snipe caster), he can be viable even with casters who do absolutely nothing for him, as he has quite a long range, two powerful shots each turn with nice effects, and is pretty durable. He's never a bad choice, just not always the best choice.
