Hey all!
I've been on a painting binge, and have been wanting to finish painting up some of my Trollbloods.
For some reason, Trolls have been one of those factions across all of my mini games that I've had trouble settling on a color palette for. Something about Trollblood blue clashing with all of the leathers, bags, tartans, and other "fantasy" materials. This is all magnified by the fact that I'm colorblind, and seem to have a hard time with complementary colors anyway.
So here's a formal request for some pics of your trolls, and general recipes + schemes for more common "materials".
Please share those beauties!

So, I decided to make my trollbloods vary in skin tones along the blue-green spectrum. The darkest ones are based in coal black and then highlighted up to something that looks vaguely like a denim color just by adding pure white to the mix. Then I have pure blue, based with Cygnar Blue base and then highlighed up according to the official P3 paint mixing guide. Moving on I have teal which is based in Trollblood Base but then highlighted up with Meridius Blue and then further with Arcane Blue to give a more teal tint. Finally, I have full-on green which I believe is based with Gnarls Green. The idea behind it was several-fold. We have trolls that are physiologically adapted to all sorts of things- fire, ice, lightning generators, acid, swamps, etc. It made sense to me that if we are that adaptive that our skin tones would probably be quite varied. We are after all a bunch of distinct tribes coming together. I also painted them somewhat based on which areas they belonged to in my headcanon/official lore, so Champions are the same scheme as Borka, who is the same scheme as my Northkin. Anyway, I have a bunch of imgur albums of varying quality. Glacier KingDoomshaper3Ragnor, Madrak3, and Horgle2Sea King
And finally, the WIP thread that I am updating as I go for all my Northkin I just bought.

I have some green trolls linked in my signature. As for tartans, i use a sanguine base as the red, i use a GW color for yellow stripes, and a turquoise for other stripes. For leather i have several colors of leather, but one that i like is bootstrap leather as a base. Then i add flesh color to that as a highlight, and i wash it with GW "Reikland flesh shade" that is a reddish brown. I really like that color. Here is a more detailed guide i did on my color scheme: privateerpressforums.com/showthread.php?200639-A-guide-to-using-washes

I have an instagram where I post basically all my painted minis. There should be pictures of almost all models available to trollbloods. I'm not a great painter but at least there's a lot of models. instagram.com/robobengtThe early work was pretty basic (trollblood base + agrax earthshade wash for skin) but lately I've been doing a slightly brighter version. My current recipe for non-northkin trolls is a lot like the old official one. Trollblood base. Shade with a mix of sanguine base. Highlight with a mix of frostbite. For northkin I mix a whole lot of frostbite with a little bit of trollblood base, shade by mixing in sanguine base, and highlighting by going full frostbite. My new favorite leather recipe is stolen from the PP painting videos. Gun Corps brown. Shade with Battlefield brown. Mix in some exile blue in the battlefield brown and shade more. Mix in some Rucksack tan to basecoat for highlights. I also like the Idrian Flesh + agrax wash + Khardic flesh for leather. These two are very different looking and work well next to each other.

Thanks for all of the awesome write-ups and paint logs all! I think it might be time to paint up a unit of whelps, and try out some of your skintones and leather recipes.
I'm currently painting up my Mountain King, so his loincloth will make a good opportunity to try a slew of leather options.
I'm really liking the look of the darker blue Trolls, and with the new Northkin releases, I suppose I have a solid reason to at least swap shades, if not color palettes...

This is my Trollbloods Battlegoup: The Skin is painted with GW the Vallejo äquivalent of Shadow Grey/The Fang and Hawk Turquiose/Sotek Green. The skin is primed with Turquise to prevent black primer to shine through. Both colours are mixed in something like a 1:1 ratio until they look blue and neither green or grey. This is then painted on the entire skin (like a primer). Then carefully shaded with thined black, and cleaned with the mix. Space Wolves grey/Fenrisian grey is then added to the mix for highlights. You do this until you use almost pure (and very diluted) Space wolves grey for the strongest highlights. Leather: Prime Graveyard Earth/ Steel legion Drab. Carefully (!) shade with deviant Mud - dilute and avoid glossy finish. Clean up with Steel legion Drab. Highlight with XV-88 (GW). Do final highlight with Zandry Dust. Be very careful not to paint too much of it and only apply at the very lightest parts. Don't highlight all the edges with it. Highlight the highlights on the edges with it. Metal: Boltgun Metal, Deviant Mud. Clean up with Boltgun metal, use slight or strng drybrushing. Use Fureyn Orang (Shade) to do Rust. Carefully highlight with Mithril silver, do all edges, don't overdo it or the metall becomes too clean while being rusty in the deeper Regions. Cloath/Rope: Rakharth Flesh base, shade Deviant Mud (carefully). Clean with Rakhart Flesh. Highlight with Pallyd Witch Flesh (Do a mixture of both for intermediat if necessary). Kilt: Kantor Blue, Shade with diluted Black, Kantor Blue cleanup, Altdorf Guard Blue Highlight. White:Ushabti Bone, highlight Pallyd With Flesh. Reds: Khorne Red/ evil sunz Scarlett (dilute!) For "Stone Growth" add Dark Brown mix to desaturate the Red. Dark Brown: Rhinox Hide, Mournfang Brown (Im usually Lazy here ^^) Nails/Teeth: Rhinox Hide, Zandry Dust, Ushabti Bone, Deviant Mud (carefull for good finish!) Ushabti /Pallyd With Flesh. It's all about a nice finish with the Shade.

Ä, Ö and Ü - also ß, but not Ø or Æ. Sweden and Germany are not so far apart. Gustav of Sweden came for a "visit" in 1629 after all Not that Germany is in a good position to copmpalin about such things tough Back to topic: I hope the painting guide helps, I'll try to insert the picture directly.

I'm going for a washed out purple skintone. i start with a mix of Lich purple, black and grey and glaze up to grey + white. Takes about 12 layers. For the tartans and cloths, I go for random since I'm going for kind of a Junkyard/scavenger theme. Pictures aren't the best examples for skin tone, but they're all I currently have. Copied them from the WMW facebook page. I'm hoping to be done with an extreme Mauler, Bushwackers and Horgle1+beast for the L&L painting competition this year. Might be tough since I'm the slowest painter ever, and I now have a 2 month old who demands all my free time. Attachments:
