I don't know if this is the right place to put this but it was the best that I could find. So my local gaming store has decided that they want to focus on their most profitable game which is MTG and that means they have removed several of their Warmachine tables and we no longer have enough space to play. I was wondering if any of you had some advice for making our own highly portable gaming tables that we could take with us to the game store so we still have enough space for everyone.

Have you looked at the privateer press terrain page? There are a few build logs there that are all done a little differently but seem to be nice portable tables. Pake did one that was pretty nice. I was thinking about building one similar to his but had trouble finding the hinges he used.

You want tables which fold in two, a good compromise between function and portability. Start with two 2'x4' sections of3/16" ply. Using 1.5"x3/4" clear grain laying down, frame under each sheet flush with the edges and across the middle. Fasten by screwing through the plywood from the top. Now frame around the outside of the sheets (three sides only!) using the same clear grain to form a slight lip around the playing surface. Fasten by screwing to underside frame. Add a double thickness to this frame at the ends of the short sides to accommodate the hinges which will sit on top. Cut or chisel out seats for the hinges so that the top of the lip is flush with the top surface of the hinges.this will allow the table to fold perfectly. Sand and varnish as desired and attach hinges, carrying handles or straps and latches to keep open and closed. Optionally glue in a 4x4 mat. Don't glue the middle third or the table won't fold shut. Will take some pics tomorrow if i have time Edit: table in use below and detail pics in next post
