This is both a question thread and a vent. Since the beginning of MKIII the Warmahordes community in my very small town as dwindled to the point no store is supporting the game, the already small community has vanished (moved to other games or stopped playing altogether, this however was not due to MKIII itself, just coincided with the release), I haven't played the game in over 8 months and there isn't even a place to play now even if I could. Tried to get some friends to play it but none is interested, usually due to the price barrier. Frankly I am left with a huge mono-faction collection gathering dust and a painful feeling of waste whenever I look at it.
I have considered selling it but the thing is, I still really like the game ruleset, the Iron Kingdoms setting and my collection, but I just can't justify further investment or the existence of the collection I have. I like to paint but that's just not enough for me. Has anyone been through a situation like this? How did you kept interest in the game/hobby? I have honestly actually considered getting a 2nd army and just play vs myself at home, but that feels like a utter desperation move and I have no idea how fulfilling that might be.

I would second Vassal, though that doesn't help the shelf space that your physical collection is taking up. If you can't get anyone new to start playing, is there any possibility to get the old players to come back, now that the ruleset has come into its own?

Sadly, unlikely, barring meeting to play at the store we have never been more than acquaintances. And of those whom I have contact only 2 haven't sold their armies and we have no stores to play

I wouldn't be opposed on trying There's a decent one, a fair number of regulars. Theres a few discords you can join and also just going onto the module lets you find pick up games. I'm on fairly often. Just send me a message of what time you want to go on and we can play a small one just to get you used to the vassal controls, they get easy to use once you know what you're doing

Have you tried looking in the 'Game Night' subforum? Maybe there are some players nearby you don't know about?

Yeah, it's been rough here. We've had people move, people quit playing, people playing less frequently...basically lots of reasons why the meta has dwindled. Our LGS is pretty horrid (filthy, no heat, no AC) so inviting people is tough going. There was a time when we would get 6 - 12 people on a game night. Now? We average four. It seems to be doing this almost everywhere and no one can point to one thing in particular. Eugene, about 40 minutes south of me, used to have a massive meta and now it's down to a coupl'a dudes. Salem, about 40 minutes north, used to have a dozen+ guys. Now it's 6 - 8, half of what it was. Basically, in the Valley of Oregon, we've gone from 30 players among three close metas to a dozen players. Part of me would love to combine what we're doing and get at least strong meta going but folks just sort of live too far apart.

I move a lot, and sometimes have trouble finding people/places to play warmachine. In the past, I kept myself up to date and interested by frequenting the PP forums. So that sucks.
Have you checked out further than your local area? Not sure how open your options are, but there might be a place or group within 30-60 minutes away that you could talk to. Any tournaments in your state within reasonable driving distance? I've been in that situation before (closest store 45 minutes) and it kind of sucks, but some could be better than none. I didn't go every week, and usually tried to coincide with shopping trips or other stuff. If your local community in a very small town is dead, you kind of have to look further out.
If you can't find anyone, try looking into space saving long term storage for your models. If you have a large collection, and liked painting them, it probably means a lot to you. You could easily regret selling it off. Try storing for a while, and come back to it every so often to see if you still want to keep it.
Good luck!

So none of the store will let you come in and play a game? I understand they might not carry the product or have an official game night, but that kind of stinks if you don't have access to table space. Are there a lot of other wargamers in your area, or is the total pool of people also small? If you think there are people you could pull in I'd try to talk to a store owner and see if you could run a demo night on one of their regular miniatures nights. Bring two battle boxes with you and hope to recruit some people. Maybe if you can start getting some people you can convince a store to help support the game more. It sounds like a tough spot in all honesty.

Be the PG you want to see in the world.
Also, what happened to the other players' armies? If you could borrow or acquire one of their armies that is collecting dust as a second faction, then you could run demos, etc., for your friends, at stores, at events, etc. to try to drum up some interest, perhaps?
