I've tried them in a pre-DoA list with Morghoul2 and Incinderii, my opponent laughed. The issue is that on paper all other skirmish troops out perform the croaks these days point for point. They do however have some niches target-able BoCs for Rasheth, fire synergy with Hex2, in DoA Road Hogs, in Masters Incinderii. To make them work you've got to go all in on that synergy IMHO to make the points work, I think giving them pathfinder which was the last CID update might make them a bit more relevant as it will make them more survivable with concealment etc. Still I'm sure most players would take the full Brigand boat for 2 more points than the croaks every day of the week

Only reason I take them is as support for incindiarii. Don't really see any other reason to take them over anything else... My favourite with them so far: War Room Army
Skorne - cats playing with fire
Theme: Masters of War 2 / 2 Free Cards 75 / 75 Army
Tyrant Xerxis - WB: +28 - Tiberion - PC: 22 (Battlegroup Points Used: 22) - Titan Gladiator - PC: 15 (Battlegroup Points Used: 6)
Mortitheurge Willbreaker - PC: 4 Orin Midwinter, Rogue Inquisitor - PC: 5
Praetorian Ferox - Leader & 4 Grunts: 20 Cataphract Incindiarii - Leader & 3 Grunts: 11 Cataphract Incindiarii - Leader & 3 Grunts: 11 Croak Raiders - Leader & 5 Grunts: 10 Paingiver Beast Handlers - Leader & 3 Grunts: 5 Tyrant Commander & Standard Bearer - Tyrant & Bearer: 0 Tyrant Commander & Standard Bearer - Tyrant & Bearer: 0

Take off the last two words of your title; the answer is no for everyone.

They can be used with both the dracodile and hydra due to the immunity to corrosion, which is the damage type of both thoses gargantuans sprays.

Im honestly kind of surprised 13/13 rat6 advance deploy infantry we can make tough no kd are so looked down on. My reading of their stats doesnt come across as bad as that. But it might be a meta thing

The big issue is the paingiver task master is only allowed in one theme. In winds slingers are about as good but cost 4 points less even more once you count the free models they get you and for all other lists brigans are better

Sometimes i feel bad about taking units above 40pts in a free thing per 20 theme unless im aiming to hit 60 f0r example

I've been playing this list a little in Disciples of Agony with the Croaks, it's probably a suboptimal list (what with Xekaar and all), but I am practicing for a Champions format tournament and am stuck with him if I want access to Mortality. I've found it pretty effective, I originally took brigands... but found that the AD from the croaks offered me a little more flexibility in terms of placement. The main goal of the infantry in the list was to act as a skirmish screen for the beasts and xekaar, so I tried switching to the croaks + the Swamp gobber bellows crew. The latter option has given me more scenario flexibility (<3 Swamp Gobber Bellows crew in SR2017), as well as flexibility when unpacking on the first turn, as I am free to run the beasts without worrying about the speed of their accompanying infantry.
While not as effective as their MK II glory days (it's especially sore when the task master has to give them things that the Brigands just HAVE by default), I have found them to slot into the niche I need them to fill quite nicely!.
Skorne Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] Disciples of Agony
(Xekaar 1) Beast Master Xekaar [+31] - Blackhide Wrastler [16] - Blind Walker [12] - Cyclops Shaman [8] - Mammoth [38] - Splatter Boar [8] Paingiver Task Master [0(3)] Croak Raiders (max) [17] Paingiver Beast Handlers (min) [5] Swamp Gobbers Bellows Crew [2]
