It would just make more sense to go through normal distribution channels. Not if your losing money maintaining the huge base business. The fact that huge bases aren't auto includes means a lot of them will be produced and shipped and then be relegated to sitting on a shelf gathering dust. Make their necessity in any way akin to Stones, Choir, Kovnik Jo, etc. and they'll be flying off the shelf, BUT the moaning and groaning of the people that can't afford them or just plain don't like them will be deafening. The main problem with sending things overseas is that once you part out a lot/palette into consumer size chunks, then each individual consumer has to pay a higher amount. Some kickstarter projects get around this by sending full pallets to a distribution partner in the destined country, and having them split them up and ship it to its final destination. Something similar could be done with initial runs for BAHI models. Future production runs could also be handled on a lot by lot basis.

I hope they can figure something out for international customers. Given the news about plastic kits not being effected signs point to it being a problem of materials cost for the high-volume runs they need to do to supply stock for stores. Plastic the cost is all in the tooling so if they're doing that anyway might as well spit out a few thousand copies. I'm guessing this will end up being BE casters, BEs and Gargs for the most part.
It's a shame the economics work out this way but there's not much anyone can do about it. This isn't exactly a massive market they're operating in, there's only so much growth potential for something this niche. As long as they can make it work for international people it's better this than no more huge bases...

I personally don't get what the big deal is. I play arena rex and so do lots of other European people, and the only way to get the models for that is direct orders from the US. It costs a little more, but these models are semi-expensive to begin with. A little more doesn't bother me if it is something I want.

They’re doing everything they can for international orders with free shipping (at least for pre-orders) the real problem is countries that charge huge import duties and taxes. In Australia there’s zero import duties or tax, so for us it’s probably cheaper than a store on the net.

And it seems to me like the increased prices compared to the US prices means the cost of ordering from firestorm seem similar to ordering direct from the US...

In Australia there’s zero import duties or tax, so for us it’s probably cheaper than a store on the net. Until July 1 2018 when the GST threshold of $1,000AUD is removed. Currently a Gargossal (I checked the Mountain King) is $140AUD while the Dracodile is $110USD. Translated that is just a few dollars more expensive for the Dracodile once currency conversion is done but when we've got the 10% GST on top then it is more expensive. The particular retailer I checked happens to be a PP distributor but does have competitive pricing. I'm mostly irritated that I'm unable to support someone local if I choose to for certain models. If I was a retailer in Australia I'd be pretty irritated with PP. Full disclosure, I used to work for the PP distributor and retailer I'm talking about.

As PP rarely raises prices on existing models newer models are generally more expensive than older ones of similar size and materials. The Glacier King is $150+ AUD and the Sea King will be even more again, so I'd imagine the Dacrodile would have been significantly more than $140 AUD with traditional distribution. As to the GST, it already got delayed a year there's no reason to think it won't be delayed again/will never happen at all.
